Crossing my fingers that King's Mouth will be better than this

King's Mouth is essentially another glorified Wayne solo album and I'm actually astonished they're trying to push it as the follow up to this.

nah i meant mainly because of its origin as a installation headed by Wayne, think like Tangerine Reef by AnCo was
iirc there's supposed to be a legit album coming this year though

I'm not really seeing your point, there's plenty of time for Drozd and uh... whoever else is in this band to take the basics it began with and evolve into a full Flips album? don't like 90% of their songs begin as Wayne solo writes before the band gets a hold of them?

You know, now that I think about it it's a little surprising we haven't gotten an official Wayne Coyne solo album yet, with how busy he keeps himself you'd think that by now it would have happened just by accident or something

Well, my main gripe is the gradually-decreasing involvement from literally anyone else in the band. It showed on here that Wayne was pretty much running the show, like this was probably the least involved Steven was, at best it felt like Wayne and friends doing a couple of songs, occasionally bringing out the band when the songs required something more than lethargic synths and third-rate beats. About King's Mouth, everything said about it all goes back to the info about it being related to a sound installation Wayne did back in 2015, nothing whatsoever about the others being involved. Now, could it be entirely redone, sure. But this recent run of middling to poor material leaves me skeptical of what they're doing.

like i'm gonna be honest here, the band hasn't been the same since Kliph left, that or my enthusiasm for this band has just dropped like a bag o' bricks

True, I haven't really been blown away by anything they've put out since Peace Sword, but as Sputnik's Resident Flaming Lips Fanboy I'm choosing to remain cautiously optimistic until I actually hear the album.

As someone who has listened to King's Mouth several times already, I can safely say it's much better than this.

Good to hear, I'm looking forward to the official release this summer. I actually think it comes out like a week before I'm seeing them live, so that's cool.

I know that this album can be a bit of a slog at times, but it is by no means a throwaway as is popular to categorize it. There's some real spooky vibes on here that I like. It doesn't really touch the two newer albums, I get it, but still worthy of a nod in their catalogue.
