he is objectively a talented singer, a lot of the passages on this album where he does the Prince thing are near the top of the 5th octave and aren't even in falsetto, which is crazy impressive for a male vocalist

yea but what I mean is a lot of us who have been following dglove for a while now tend to find his corniest stuff still quite sincere and earnest, I guess it's a byproduct of seeing the dude succeed against the odds and have an amazing year in every way this year which built up incredible hype for this album so we were pretty much guaranteed to enjoy it no matter what. like just seeing the dude nail it on TV, film and music this year not to mention have a son is just like seeing an old mate shooting to the stars and it feels good, hence we appreciate and feel even the corniest parts of this album. whereas someone who's just sort of coming in now and listening to this album without that context, I could easily see them being put off by all the cheese and such
