I enjoyed the album way more, but I agree with the spirit of this review.

Review could be a bit more elaborate, but subjective impressions can also stand on their own.

This album is second weakest only to the debut.

Music assessments are always subjective, but I know what I'm talking about when I say that unlike any album after the debut and up to Koloss, new Meshuggah simply does not urge me to listen to it again and again.

Yeah, the sound is there, the Meshuggah style is there, but in terms of memorable songs, the album is lackluster.

Not to mention what Meshuggah said in an interview for this album at Metal Hammer Greece, that metal is stagnant for a while now, and in Meshuggah releases to come, they hope to get the genre out of the said moot point.

It's as if Meshuggah are admitting - indirectly - that they are close to depleting their resources, and that they need to look elsewhere for inspiration.

only if you prefer them at their grooviest. I'd say it's their least interesting record post-DEI, even while they phoned it in a bit on Koloss.

i agree with almost everything above. Nothing has great songs but its still their 2nd "worst" album after the debut which is itself a pretty solid thrash record.

This is probably my second or third fav shugg rn.
