"written a classic album....in relation to your mccartney example"

and like McCartney it's been a very long time since he's done so. Kinda like Metallica.

and i'll give you that Dom, but there's no denying that megadeth has been the superior band since the early 90's, songwriting wise

I'm not dismissing his writing abilities what??? Christ I gave RiP a 4.5 lol.

I just think James is way better as well as way more consistent and has been for a very long time. All this criticism about Metallica not putting out a good album since 1991 (not true at all), yet what has Mustaine done since then?? Only album I ever even think about going back to from that time period is Endgame, and he's dropped like double the amount of albums Metallica has dropped during that time span.

we were discussing songwriting.....you would see that if you went back and read the thread.....you prefer james more and that is fine, many agree with you.....i made a comment that i prefer dave, but it has nothing to do with the discussion either way

the facts are that metallica hasn't put out a 3.5 album since the black album (according to overall fanbase)

megadeth put out 5 of them in that time period

not being active writing wise, within an allocated time period, doesn't help support the argument from metallica's standpoint

comparing 90's and 00's metallica vs. megadeth isn't even a debate really

Metallica vs Megadeth at literally any point in time isn't even a debate really.

And yeah I know yall are talking about songwriting, and that's also what I've been talking about the whole time obv.

Overall, Megadeth has been more consistent since the 90's began, and although they've made a couple of bad albums, none is as bad as "St. Anger". On the other hand, Megadeth never reached the high levels of Tallica's best material nor they made a streak like Metallica did in the 80's. In other words, Megadeth never stumbled like Metallica did, but they never surpassed the material written during their classic period (1983-1988). And even if RiP is quite possibly the best album, better than everything Metallica ever released, still, James & Co. made 2-3 albums that surpass all of their albums besides RiP.

I hope I made sense, lol

If RiP was a Metallica album it would only be their 4th best.

the masses seem to think it would be #1

but that's besides the point as comparing Megadeth and Metallica wasn't the intention.....the point was to justify dave mustaine as a songwriter and his value as an asset.....to add insult to injury, he does have writing credits for a handful of songs on Metallica's first 2 albums as well

the band would've been better, everything else being equal, with him in it, because of what he brings to the table.....a legitimate 5 tool player if you will rather than a singles hitter like kirk
