Kinda irrelevent to my point, so here's example:

Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa is a triple album that is 115 minutes, I think it's amazing, and have it rated at a 4.5. I have a lot of great memories of listening to that album and still listen to songs from it...

but when was the last time I've heard it from start to finish? It's been so long because I just don't feel like dedicating that long to hearing the same album

Similar feelings work for Mellon Collie, which is a 121 minutes and also a 4.5 in my book

I love them, but I don't visit them as much as I could due to thier length

1) sounds like a you problem

2) this album and all other applicable stereolab albums are south of 80 minutes so your datapool is entirely drawn from outliers - so yes, all kind of irrelevant to your point

Bro wtf if you’re jamming good shit its easy and fun. These guys are one of the best bands. Roll a doobie, crack open a beer, and hit play.

There's nothing quite like a very long record that manages to stay interesting for its total duration. Something to sink the teeth into. But in general 40-45 minutes is enough yeah.

It really just depends, I can’t buy into anything that states ‘this is the ideal length’ - there are so many different factors. Shorter albums are more convenient, sure. Doesn’t mean the musical experience is superior.

If someone came to me and said here’s a 40 minute album and here’s a 60+ min one, which one do you want to check first? (without providing any other information)... then it’s literally a coin flip.

I prefer 50-60 minutes albums or less, anything over 75-80 is pushing it for me

A few exceptions though, it does depend

I DO have my limits, admittedly, but anything sub-80 is perfectly reasonable. I might not listen to it as often due to time constraints, but otherwise I don’t find it off-putting. The vast majority of music I have an interest in is sub-80. I feel like restricting myself to material shorter than that runtime would be overly restrictive.

this used to be 4.5 territory for me, not even sure why i dropped it down tbh. i guess its because its not in my regular rotation, but quality-wise its probably worth a 4.5 gotta relisten soon
