Oh yea Ectogenesis blew me away. That middle section...

Now I feel like including it in the best! Oh well, I'll just leave this here.

That track is definitely among AaL at their slickest, and one of their best uses of the thumping rhythms.

Ectogenesis and Apeirophobia are my personal faves at the moment but I'm really reluctant to split the album up into individual tracks...

I'm pretty disappointed with this. Musicianship is superb and the songs are really well crafted. For me, I just really loved the blend of sounds and production they got with The Joy of Motion. I just prefer heavier and jammy/groovy AAL to super percussive and proggy AAL. This album is really cool and clearly an evolution of their sound, but for me, it's just not my preferred "style" of AAL. Maybe they'll find a better happy medium with their next one because the production of this album has left all the heavy behind. I literally tuned out for portions of this album each time I've listened. It's so technical that it's just not as fun. I don't know...time will tell I guess where this ends up ranking for me.

After the first couple of listens to the singles I felt a little alienated and like I wasn't getting it, so I totally get your feelings on it, but it was the most satisfying click when the album made sense for me...

I can but hope, I'm super happy looking back on my work this time last year and knowing how comparatively garbage it is - objectively - but I know I can get better and really want to.

Just feeling a bit of a purple patch.

Back to the album, I really wouldn't lose sleep if we never got a properly heavy AaL record again, but if 'Earth Departure'/'Tooth And Claw' style slamming came back on album five, I'd be pretty happy...

I couldn't even begin to answer that, I'm just fucking stoked that them playing together is a regular deal.

Honestly I think the answer to that is why I enjoy this so much, because it doesn't feel as standoffish as their previous albums, it resonates harder than that. So pretty good ratio IMO.

Eh, I'm not digging this one that much unfortunately. Brain Dance is incredible though.

I admire the band's musicianship as the performances from all the members are great, but the songs don't jam for me like they do on JoM or s/t. So, it leans more toward technically impressive.

AaL fans should check out Mammoth's album that was recently released.

It's super fun and self aware and feels like there is plenty of humor in the incredibly impressive playing.
