Fantastic review Mercury, this could be my longest Yea Boi this year. Pumped to hear it after work.

I think it took me a while to get into TJoM because I went into it expecting a metal album which for the most part I didn't get and it jarred the hell out of me. This time round I've just learnt to be open minded about whatever I'm given and it just so happens to be gorgeous.

Also I dig Weightless far more than seemingly everyone else on the site...

Naw I love Weightless. Maybe because it was my first but there are so many monstrously epic moments on that album.

It was my first too - first real exposure to instrumental metal too and I fucking adore it.

definitely not, I think it's their second best by a mile.

the thing that and the first album had were the AAL holy shit moments. like epic moments that made your jaw drop and you could sing them in your head for days. I've gotten none of that from their last two releases

Holy hell this is fucking disappointing, I wish they would fuck off with the djent and overused slap guitar passages that seem to just be glue between random melodies. Second half is decent but man the first 4-5 songs are bland because of that. I'll have to give it a few more listens but its looking like a 2-2.5 for me, which is disappointing as hell since I followed these guys since their first album.

Listening to this right now while hitting some kush and reading the newspaper. I'm really enjoying this. Sithu Aye and AAL both came in clutch this year.

I really love The Brain Dance, but I'll have to check this rest of this out.

So I'm getting the impression that this is better than Weightless, but not as good as the debut or The Joy of Motion? I liked the singles but they didn't really blow me away.

That is discouraging since I was hoping for a continuation of the Joy of Motion sound, but I'll listen with an open mind. Weightless was very good after all.

I've listened to it about 6 times.

Cognitive Conditions is boring unless you really like the crazy rhythm stuff he does, then it is awesome.

Transcentience finally clicked but it took many listens

I just can't get into the whole mid section of The Glass Bridge

The rest is great. Some of AaL's best hooks and melodies are scattered throughout this, but I think what will decide it for people is how much they enjoy all the stuff inbetween the hooks..which is most of the album.

Feels more improvised and straight acid jazzy (probably completely misusing that but it just came to mind) then anything they have done. Pleasant flow and melody don't seem to be nearly as much of an emphasis as it was on The Joy of Motion

Brain Dance and Inner Assassins are def the best on here IMO.
