This rules, even the tracks I didn't love at first are great now. Definitely a grower.

Band has hit autopilot and cruised themselves into zzzzzzzzzzzzzz to the point that they suck at their own sound.

Darkside, so you speculate I'm an old schooler? I could give two shits about the past and future efforts of bands. Great metal is great metal but when a band literally writes the same album three times in a row (and a boring sound at that), you can't tell me you get a little fed up with them?

I don't think their last three have been that much alike really. Construct was a much more moody and somber affair compared to the few before it and Atoma combines that sound with the more urgent nature of Character. I can understand why you wouldn't like it but I haven't been completely disappointed by the band yet. WATV was lost on me for awhile but I enjoy it quite a bit now.

Honestly Construct and WATV are average. I haven't heard this, but the band seems tired. That's why I waant super surprised when Henriksson left.

I feel like the band wants to really change their sound, but are limiting themselves because of their fans. They need to do an Opeth and say fuck you to the rigid death metal fans

@Wizard: the 3 after Haven have a reasonably similar formula, but they're composed really well. The 2 before this, meh

I'd be down to hear them do a straight-up goth album a la middle era Paradise Lost.

"when a band literally writes the same album three times"

yeah that doesn't make sense, not liking it is whatever but we are the void at least was very different from the next two

Ocean that would be cool. Or if they delved into progressive metal. Jivarp during the writing process said that the ideas he's coming up with are heavy, so the Anathema like album by them will have to wait. Dark old school gothic/alt metal by DT would be very cool

They've pretty much had the same core sound since Damage Done but I feel that they've tweaked it just enough with each release as to keep it from getting boring. That's just me though, I love their trademark brand of melodeath and I don't really want them to change too drastically as to be unrecognizable. They seem to be enjoying what they do in any case.

@Wizard - No, I didn't read any of the previous comments, I was just going by the 3.0 and saying "oh so it's not the gallery?" but yeah in context I would see why you would think I was saying that lol

They make Ocean's idea seem rather plausible.

"album artwork looks like something that came out of an ogre's nose"

hahahahah!

Well, after listening to the album two times straight through in the last 12 hours, I've got to say that I agree with a lot of the points made in this review. With that being said, I am definitely not disappointed. My favorite songs so far are Atoma, Forward Momentum, Force of Hand, and Our Proof of Life. Clearing Skies and Merciless Fate sound really weird to me for some reason. It's almost as if they are melodeath versions of songs from another genre I can't seem to put my finger on. I'm not sure what I think of those two songs yet. Anyways, a solid release overall.
