unlike this album and all after it, which just sound like caricatures of bm. :-) :-) :-)

This album definitely deserves some more credit. There’s no way this album could be described as a ‘caricature’, because it’s not trying to replicate the standard BM formula of some of their earlier material, or the many bands that were trying to write another Nemesis Divina. Instead, it’s a massive production, but not polished, and introduces some cold electronic flourishes. This album is at its best when it’s slow and hypnotic; e.g. the main bridge of With Ravenous Hunger and much of Suffering The Tyrants. It’s a shame in my view that they never took those original elements on this album and developed them on future releases, instead of opting for a much more straightforward and linear approach to song writing and production.

I haven't jammed this for a very long time, and now I feel I'll have to bump up my rating because it actually slays.

The engineering work on this album is incredible. Just listen to the way the China cymbals pop on the intro to fuel for hatred, or the massive guitar tones on tracks like Suffering The Tyrants. The snare sound is almost perfect, too. Nothing they released after this even comes close to the same quality.
