Yeah I was genuinely shocked that this didn't get a warmer reception on a site like this. Not that people hated it but I think this is easily better than BI, BI and that was the site's AOTY in 2011.

Well the general reception from fans seems to be that this is actually his weakest output but I guess it's been more of a matter of how people generally like to listen to Justin. I've always been more interested by his more experimental pop stuff (like the tracks he contributed to on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) so logically I've been enjoying this a lot more than his straightforward folk stuff

Makes sense. To me I actually slightly preferred his folk output but he did everything he can there between Emma and BI, BI. I'm excited that he is moving in a more progressive direction.

There is no way this is better than BI, BI Sow, c'mon. I'm all about artists evolving and experimenting and there were clear concepts behind his previous albums but in this one I honestly have no idea what is going on. It's like he tried way too hard to do something that no one ever had done before. There are good tracks on it, don't get me wrong but the overall feeling of the album is just... I don't know, weird.

The concept of this album is like the clearest of any in his discography tho. Also BI BI is rubbish

It is better for me, just brings more great songs to the table. Not better than For Emma tho.

I like that this does some different things and plays around with different genres whilst still retaining that uniquely Bon Iver gorgeousness

I've only listened to this once, but my impression was that the songwriting itself was just Bon Iver by the numbers (pardon the pun). The electronics make it special sometimes but I find it's overall weaker than the other two albums, just because the songs don't really bring anything new to the table

This is on par with emma for me. BI,BI has its moments, but its easily his weakest.

This album really surprised me. Didn't think I was going to like it all that much but damn it's got some solid moments. 33 God in particular is stellar

I can't help but think about Age of Adz the more I'm revisiting this. I think I might mean it in a bad way cis this pales so badly in comparison to it

Dear Mr Vernon,

Your latest album is such an insubstantial and fluffy listen it drifted out of my open window. In future if you feel inclined to release something quite so wafty please put spoken word instructions at track 1 along the lines of: 'thank you for purchasing this record, some acts claim they've bottled lightning...here I've collected my waftiest fir scented fart. For maximum enjoyment close all doors and windows and immerse yourself totally, lest my magic puff disperses into the ether'. That way your audience understand what it is they've purchased.

In conclusion I'd say that, as a loyal Bon Iver consumer, I still believe you to be a superior songwriter than brewer of external ablutions, though I do admit you have some talent at the latter.

Yours truly,

Doofus Wainwright I

PS. I include a tin of 'sensual lumberjack' beard wax as I know it's your favourite brand and to show no hard feelings.
