Strange Brew is the only song on here that I sincerely enjoy and might want to jam again, but overall this sounds just disjointed and not too inspired to me. Then again, I've never been the biggest Opeth fan.

Opeth delivered essential prog rock with Still Life, which is an emphatic 4.5, so I can't land a substantially better rating for this album.

This record is amazing, loved it! Only a few songs were meh. And the two bonuses are outstanding.

Enjoy this pretty much so far but production is incredibly bad. So many details are drowned in the shitty production, it's a shame... Hope they didn't use the same fcked up master for the vinyl version.

On first [full] listen, first half is shit but the second half isn't bad and there's some better stuff than I was expecting.

for the record, i don't think that Opeth's last 3 albums are shit, regardless of my heckling comments from time to time......the music is fine for what it is.....but if I'm in an Opeth mood, it will never be for these last 3 albums

Still think Ghost Reveries is an incredible record as well as their pinnacle

Heritage was great, PC was average and this is kinda average overall (probably going to be a 2.5).

"Strange Brew is awesome."

Yup and it would be a shame if a song with that name was poor.

The Cream song is indeed infinitely better.

"would you like to see them continue in the current direction?"

If you'd asked me that after Heritage but before PC I might well have said yes but now not so much as they seem to have gone backwards with it. There are some moments on the second half of this (although I say this tentatively as I've only listened through once) that suggest potential for something at least somewhat interesting in this direction but still not nearly enough to make me excited for another album of this style unless they can combine it with/return to the loose, jazzy instrumentation of Heritage.

This performance of "Harvest" by 9 cellos came out yesterday and it's absolutely beautiful.
