Yeah, most Dylan albums are like that, but this one may be the most quotable of them all.

Either of you listened to Gregory Alan Isakov? Can't compare him to Dylan as a lyricist of the same caliber, but he's a great folk songwriter with strong lyrics. This Empty Northern Hemisphere is his album I discovered last month, amazing stuff.

Always thought this was the worst of his "classic" albums. Still great though.

I'd easily take this over Highway 61 Revisited, can't really go wrong with any of them though.

"Either of you listened to Gregory Alan Isakov?"

No I haven't. I've come across his name once or twice but never listened.

For me, Highway 61, Freewheelin, Blood on the Tracks, Times are a Changing, Other Side of Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, and even John Wesley Harding beat this.

Ok, can't guarantee you'd like his music. For me, though, that album is greatest thing from an unknown artist I've heard in a long time.

Also, John Wesley Harding is so good. Definitely top 5 Dylan for me.

@Hans: Blood on the Tracks beats this for sure but the only other album out of those that comes even remotely close to this for me is Bringing It All Back Home.

Love all of them though. I do think Freewheelin' and Times are slightly overrated though.

I have a soft spot for Highway 61, its my dads favorite album so Ive been hearing it for over 30 years. Also, it has Desolation Row, which is the best song ever.

I absolutely love Highway 61, it just can't touch my top 3 Dylan.

@arg: I'll give him a listen at some point too.

My top 5 (so tough to choose): Blood On The Tracks, Bringing It All Back Home, Freewheelin', this one, John Wesley Harding. Another Side, Highway 61 Revisited, and Desire are close too.

Fairly close to mine. Freewheelin' for me was the Dylan album that grew the most on me, by far. I listened to it for years, and at long last I suddenly gained a much greater appreciation for it. I still find Times to be easily the weakest of his "classic" period though.
