I think they've tried to make the lyrics a little more 'pop' and radio soundbitey but on examples like that like you said it works, more thought has gone into them then you might at first presume

lots of people hating on this elsewhere so its prolly good.

It's up there with Joy Divisions Closer no doubt

Cloves it's preconceptions, you come to Wild Beasts for a high amount of vocal melody/interplay and this won't satisfy that like previous albums. It does its own thing, and I think surprisingly well.

havent heard their other stuff yet though I do have two of their albums in my listen log list.

Zak the thing I like with WB is I can't detect who they're trying to emulate - they seem very unique though I may have missed an obvious influence

Cloves you'll like these a lot I'd predict, you might even enjoy the debut best which is flamboyant to the maximum

I'll give it hell this weekend and see. These guys are too good to not have something for me here. I wasn't wanting/expecting dance pop stuff at all, though.

gonna check this out right now, why not

I'm gonna review the debut as soon as I can and try and convert some people. I've listened to the full new record now, and I think it's better than Present Tense.
The album-only bonus track really took my fancy. Think the whole record would be better if it had the same blemished, damaged tone.

I don't think the tone on the album is in any way saccharine or overly glossy though, this just has a full sound and the textures just get better and better the more you listen
I haven't heard the bonus track yet, will do
The album really gets motoring from 'Bang' on I feel
'Celestial,/'2BU' is a great centrepiece pairing

It's not really a track per se, just a collection of demos. But some of the ideas on it are really nice.
Hearing a bit of St. Vincent on 'Tough Guy' with the distorted guitar.

5 tracks in and this is pretty alright so far.

You could imagine that they could have recorded a different version of Adonis on their debut, has some of the original WB magic on that one

i think my biggest gripe with this was that the vocalist didn't have that big of a punch to make a lot of this more impactful. but it jams hard so its w/e.

check the debut lol, the vocals on that are just wall to wall punch. I give you 30 seconds of 'Vigil for a Fuddy Duddy' before you fall off you seat in shock as to how different they are there. 'The Club of Fathomless Love' makes Hegarty sound like a wallflower in comparison (seriously)
this is their least vocal-centric release which is a big departure, the vocal melodies are pretty much secondary here and I'd never have imagined that with a Wild Beasts album

Two Dancers through Present Tense was such a gorgeous, progressive run. Even the debut, if a bit shaky and raw, has a lot of fun stuff on it.

fun is the word with the debut, you have to be in the mood though

For sure. I play it the least. I listen to the other 3 pretty often. They have something for all my moods.

The debut is so unique to me. I don't know anything quite like it.
