It's awful, but it's only my 3rd least favorite song from the trilogy
God I hope at least that pop punk band releases a good record this year

"This could actually be the case. Lead singer Ben Kowalewicz got married 5 years ago (I believe) which would explain why the last 2 albums (Afraid of Heights and Dead Silence to a lesser extent) have a lot less edge to them."
That would explain a lot. And come on, the title track of this album is a total love song.

"The Crutch" is a fantastic track and definitely the standout track to me this album."
Fix this sentence and you'll have a pretty solid review.
I remember buying the first Billy Talent album on a whim at K-Mart when I was 15 or 16 and it ended up being a mainstay in my CD play for a while. The band was just so distinct and raw and catchy all at once that they were a blessing to me at a time when I started getting bored of pop-punk type of stuff. II was also pretty good, III was pretty listless and Dead Silence had some return-to-form songs imo, but I don't think they've never wholly re-captured what made them special.
Not even sure I'll listen to this, but cheers to them for still chugging along.

At the risk of sounding stupid what would I change it to? English isn't my first language so I still struggle with some small things like that.

Not quite as good as Dead Silence but I will say, this album is everything Billy Talent III tried to be and failed at.
It's a maturity album alright, but with some actual hooks and catchy riffs for good measure. I've spent the better part of the week listening to it and I must say it's grown on me a lot.
Good album, much better than I expected.

III has plenty of both though. One day I'll understand the popular consensus about III, one day...
"At the risk of sounding stupid what would I change it to?"
I think something like ""The Crutch" is a fantastic track and definitely an album highlight" could work.
Will check the album again in a minute.

Got about 4 songs into this and couldn't be arsed. Think I've hit the brick wall with BT which a lot of fans did at III and I quite enjoyed III.

3 is one of the most horribly boring and lethargic albums I've ever heard.
The one track I can make it through without falling asleep is The Dead Can't Testify and even that song is ruined by awful lyrics (rhyming "ground" with "ground" 3 times in a single verse among others). Tears Into Wine is a shallow attempt at recapturing the BT2 era glory and ust falters completely.
DS and this album have the riffs and catchiness and even more importantly, atmosphere that it lacked. Horses and Chariots, Cannibal Rats, February Winds, RABBIT DOWN THE HOLE (on par with Crooked Minds as one of their best tracks ever), Time Bomb Ticking Away (the extremely tense atmosphere), etc. Excellent album.

"Devil On My Shoulder" and "Turn Your Back" are pretty cool too.

See, I can't understand that point of view, I liked III since first listen. It's (relatively) heavy, gritty and very gloomy in places. It features both stompers like Pocketful of Dreams and mournful songs like White Sparrows. If we're talking about atmosphere, I feel III really has no rivals in the discography. Sudden Movements is indeed kinda boring though.
It seems to me that those who dig III have a harder time with DS. While those who got bored with III consider DS as a reinvigorated band, to me it sounds like a band that was short on ideas and produced some off-putting happy sounding material that really doesn't fit them. You can guess that Cure for the Enemy is my highlight ahah.
We can agree on this album though! I'm on my second listen and it sounds a lot closer to the BT I like. Probably going to 3.5 it too, couple of duds (Big Red Gun and Louder than the DJ) but the rest rules.

Less edge to the music and complacency seem to be the main complaints that I've seen. You'd recommend this then Flug?

"gotta say big red gun is a nice banger"
Well yeah bad idea to lump it with Louder.
Faves so far are t/t, Leave Them All Behind and Time-Bomb, maybe Ghost Ship too. There is some sweet BT2 feel on this.

I need to give it a good relisten.
Saint Veronika is their best song, from a reltively hit or miss album. Tears of Wine, Turn Your Back and White Sparrows are also great from III
