I'm similar only that thought hits me 30 seconds after pressing play and I don't like any of the songs

"Anyone catch these guys in a Boston basement last night? While Haken played a couple blocks away?"
I stayed for Haken, but only because I've never seen 'em before and saw TYS twice already.
But man oh man did that basement show look like a fucking jam, from the photos.

"I liked a few songs on this (Caverns, The Somnambulist, Mr. Invisible) but man does it get old by the end of the album. After a full hour it's just like 'ok, you have horns and strings in your band....got it thanks'"
My case was the opposite; on my first listen I was lukewarm towards the first half of this album and anticipated giving this a 2.5. "Need More Input" sold me otherwise; that song, "The Amateur Arsonist's Handbook" and "Rube Goldberg Variations" are my top 3 in reverse order

Tried to like this band, but not my thing... the extra instruments just sound, well, old. It's as if a band that I would normally like decided to invite his 60 year old dad's lounge band to record with them. The merge just doesn't quite jive.

Please, reissue this without vocals. The band is incredible, especially live, but that vocalist... Pff. Sounds like most gayest prog-rock vocalists i ever heard. I cant listen to this with my girlfriend around lol.

yeah, somewhat true. It's good in like the first 4 listen, and then it's ok.
|
| |
yeah this album is aggressively alright. the first was better. they doubled down on the prog for this one but in the process became more boring

Naw, I think this one might be better than the first. Each song is a standout... and that's not to say that wasn't the case with the first but this one has so many massive moments.

This honestly might make its way to a 5 pretty soon. Every song on this is amazing.
