TDAG does have a couple weaker tracks, lyrically, but I wouldn't necessarily say that they're "bad". Brand New is a pretty well-rounded band, as far as quality on all fronts go, but I would also have to disagree and say that if I had to pick one strength of Brand New, it would be lyrics.

I'll go to war willingly with anyone over the lyrical quality of this band

I prefer the older version of 1996, I thought that was a perfect recording anyway

It's honestly one of their best songs

I'd be happy if they just did a radiohead and released an album of polished off old and unreleased tracks. I'm cautious about getting hyped for the new album

I would riot. It'd be nice, but I really want new material.

I definitely want new material. But at this point, I'd kind of like to hear polished versions of good man and battalions still.

new material would be preferred and I think reworked stuff is out of the question cuz why would you release a 3 song EP of reworked stuff and then shortly after release an album of reworked stuff

true but idk man it just wouldn't add up. I could see a couple making the album but not a full album of all reworked material...

Depends on how burnt out they are. They're not oblivious to their legacy and the cult following they have - they'd probably rather bow out with great re-worked demos than an album not worth their fans' time.

yeah but they also probably realize their fans want new material, which is why they are (hopefully) re-releasing old stuff AND putting out a new album

Again, this is Brand New. Best of both words just doesn't seem too likely to me.
