If you've heard one of their albums you've basically heard them all, but that's a good thing if you like this kind of stuff.

La gargola and this are a bit heavier than their other stuff but for the most part they have a very consistent sound

Vena Sera is prolly the most "different" of their albums

Yeah Vena Sera is the one with probably the most interesting guitar work, however I love the much more melodic approach that they followed with Sci-Fi Crimes

Does anybody notice a difference in Joe and Dean's bass work? Or is it pretty much the same?

dean is a little gnarlier tone wise to me but then again the whole band is as of late so

dean seems to stand out waaay more than joe ever did, stuff like the double bass on sleep apnea or joyride in general didn't really happen with joe (with evening being the only excpetion really)

Dean brings more to the table, I think. He's written some really memorable bass lines.

definitely, sleep apnea, envy, meddler, this circus, joyride, jawbreaker, hats off to the bull... he's kinda underrated honestly

Finally listened to this. I can't think of another alt metal band as automatic as Chevelle are with releasing solid albums.

lol nah. This album is still a worthy addition to their catalog, and a great record overall.

Sure, opinions and all considered, Chevelle haters can suck it. I think this band is very credible for what it is, a successful alt metal band. I'll even compare them to Deftones, another band that remains a favorite after 8 consistent albums, even though Gore doesn't appeal much to me, very much like HOTTB didn't.

They have yet to release a "bad abum" imo.

Kind of kidding but it's like comparing Nirvana to Bush or something

I find Pete Loeffler a great songwriter and a creative guitarist, even though he is by no means an amazing one. His recent collaborations with Dean are great too. I think Dean adds up to the band, even though I think most of the albums he has been involved in are sort of a hit or miss.

By no means I take any credibility to Deftones by making that comparison, they are definitely the superior band in my eyes with SNW and WP alone, really. Not to mention they are an incredibly influential band. But I have a soft spot for Chevelle, and both bands being 8 albums in at this point, and pretty much being two of the few relevant alt metal bands I still listen to warrants a fair comparison.
