yeah House & Home is prob my least fav as well. Habit is decent imo. Empty Canvas, Fade, and Forget all don't really do it for me

Empty Canvas and Fade are great imo and Forget is good for what it is. Middle of the album definitely blurs a bit and has less smooth flow than the start and end, and I think that's what makes those first two fail to feel accomplished.

But then they click and it's like "oh, sweet"

bump it then man! I was on the edge too but it's shortcomings are too much for me to justify giving this a higher rating

After a few listens this remains pretty mixed for me, but there's no bad material and a lot of interesting moments. House & Home and Fade are my least favorites, and the best are probably Eyes, Color Worn, and Left Behind.

Penny is a great little jam too, always forget about that one. Wonderful pick-me-up following Fade

yeah there's a lot of cool sounding tracks and even the worst tracks aren't too bad. i tried to hint at this in the review, but I feel like with this album Gates have really set themselves up to release something incredible, wouldn't be surprised if their next album is stellar

there is good stuff on here but considering how colorfully energetic their last album was this was quite dull.

Saw this band live with thrice and la dispute two months back, glad they got around to a big tour like that. I've been following this band since bear and bright lights

I just noticed I never gave these ratings but I agree with toondude, not as much energy as the previous record but it definitely doesn't feel that way live. It's incredible live

I bet it's massive live. tracks like Left Behind and Shiver I could see being really intense/powerful in a live setting. seems like everyone is 3.5ing this aha

pfff

this might be my biggest grower this year - I was totally lukewarm about it on first listen but at this point it's solidly a 4-range effort for me
