>Proclaims himself best hip hop reviewer on the entire site.

You do really get into a tailspin in the last paragraph, though. Pretty cringe worthy.

Been looking back at the thread since I fell asleep and literally, Lambs, it's your problem not anyone or everyone else's that the entertainment value for something automatically drops if the album you listen to is over-exposed. This is serious hipster logic
Also sorry, I was quite sleepy when I made my criticisms on the first page of the site. That argument you propose of Kendrick not being talented enough to analyze the situation is an interesting argument but, then again, the narrative of the album is clearly restricted to what Kendrick experienced in this point of time. He does not in any way propose a solution to any of the problems that Compton faced at that time or even present day Compton. The album is a story of survival. Nothing more, nothing less

"Nothing ties the songs together on this album except a number of clumsy skits. Fact." The skits on the album provide comic relief (the dad) and also provide the voice of reason that Kendrick was missing (his mom). With the exception of Bitch Don't Kill My Vibes (really weak song that nowhere near deserves its whopping 5 minute run time) being that it has nothing to do with the story, the album clearly follows a cohesive plot from start to finish:
Sherane: Kendrick meets a hoodrat girl that he begins to have extreme lust over. The skits that bookend the song forshadow the rest of the story
Backseat Freestyle: Young Kendrick doing a freestyle for the homies which further characterizes young Kendrick while also providing better insight into his state of mind as he makes the decisions he makes prior to the plot's climax
The Art of Peer Pressure: the rising action of the story. Kendrick, having gotten closer with the gang with the freestyle he made, begins to participate in gang related activities.
Money Trees: The elated state of mind of Kendrick after the gang related activities of the song prior and now finally had the chance to fornicate with Sherane. At the same time, Kendrick now unconsciously developes a shadow of doubt in what he's doing. He's facing a cognitive dissonance with himself as he now begins to think "Halle Berry, or hallelujah" and "the one in front of the gun lives forever"
Ah whatever I'm done here I sound like a complete nerd dissecting the plot and I haven't eaten breakfast yet

It's ironic that you call Kendrick a hipster when your review has all the hallmarks of a hispter's vain attempt to tear down something widely acclaimed. If your goal was to write a good review, you failed. If your goal was to stir the pot you could honestly do better.

It's not my fault ignorant groupies ruin albums. It has nothing to do with overexposure, Kendrick has a unique form of dick riding/ hysteria surrounding him because he says all the right topical politically correct nonsense. It's not just his fans, it's his willingness to cater to ignorant people with awful taste.
"The album is a story of survival. Nothing more, nothing less" in other words its a cheap action flick. Thanks i'll expect a POS from you.

But can't a story about survival be something else other than a cheap action flick? Not considering this record, but in general?

yes I'm a hipster because I don't like hipster music. great reasoning there. Hipsters are people who hate on things for the sheer contrarian aspect. I gave plenty of valid reasons why this album is overrated. You aren't willing to listen because you want to continue deluding yourself and believing this mundane album is revolutionary.

@alc the idea is that the production values are absolutely high and completely on point in a really flashy style while the story arc, lyricism, and meat is very underdeveloped, weak, or just plain bad. like more action flicks.
its an easy to understand comparison, agree with it or not. I use the exact same metaphor to explain the new Logic album.

"Still trying to figure out how this is like an action film..." bro you are honestly clueless, i'm tired of explaining obvious things to you.
Yeah, a story about survival CAN be something more than a cheap action flick, but this album ISNT. As I validly pointed out, the one emotion in this album is fear. It is the epitome of a cheap thrill movie made into an album. It's basically like The Fast and the Furious, and a bunch of hysterical people are calling it the best movie of all time because it made a lot of money, in reality it's an incredibly unoriginal, average-quality product.

Most action movies I hate, however, dont invoke any singular emotion out of me. Unless youre trying to say it focuses on one single emotion and makes it a one dimensional album, which then I can see what you're saying. Even if I disagree. Also who are you talking to who call fast and furious the best movie ever?
