Agreed Animals, wish there was more music like this but it's so unique.

Really interested in hearing their follow-up but obviously not expecting it to be the same style, knowing this band.

toby gave some insight into what the new album will be in a very vague way.

on facebook he wrote, and i quote: "Mostly the way I feel right now is: fuck metal, fuck chamber music, fuck nerd music, fuck my scene, etc. maybe that’ll give you an idea"

was in response to a fan inquiring about the albums' overall direction

Interesting, and I'm glad he didn't mention electronic music. Would be great if it and his new solo album were both released this year.

Hmmm, yeah I'm not sure I have any idea what he's talking about then

I wanna know what he means by "nerd music" haha.

Live at Roulette had elements of Chamber music so note sure he really means he's sick of that.

Sick of metal I understand; I think those live Gamma Knife tracks and most of Hubardo was a one-time deal in terms of bringing that sound back.

I read an interesting interview for either this or Coffins where Toby was talking about how he was getting more into the NY electronic scene, particularly electronic body music. I'm not going to do justice to what he said so here's the link (about 4 or 5 questions in): https://beardedgentlemenmusic.com/2014/10/29/interview-toby-driver-kayo-dot/

That seems to fit with the quote that was mentioned earlier

“Live at Roulette had elements of Chamber music so note sure he really means he's sick of that.“

Maybe he’s referencing that he doesn’t want to touch chamber music at all in the context of KD which I understand. The songs on Live at Roulette/the upcoming solo album is pretty much in its own world so to speak as was Madonnawhore was its own thing outside of KD or Tartar Lamb or even In The L..L..Library Loft.

Speaking of which, I currently intern at Roulette actually as an A/V guy 2 days a week and I just happened to have crossed paths with String Noise (who were on strings in the Live at Roulette album) and who just happened to perform on a night where I was interning last week...should’ve asked them about how the solo album was going but I couldn’t find the right time to bring it up.

He's doing weird industrial electronic stuff with his girlfriend under the name Piggy Black Cross rn

Weird electronic sounds promising though. Either way you know you're going to get something interesting whenever Toby is involved.

The new solo album has finally landed on a label, Blood Music (the home of motW physical releases). Both Toby and the press release by Blood Music state that this is an album that motW fans might latch onto as the songwriting and structures harken back to that period of the band minus the metal and chaos. No release date set in stone yet, but should be out during the 2nd half of this year.

I saw that, getting excited. Live at Roulette had Part the Second vibes I thought.

Yeah, I thought that myself actually which is really interesting considering that Toby wrote the lyrics for all of the songs and not Jason Byron. There's one lyric from Scaffold of Digital Snow that I could decipher which really gave me motW vibes which is the line "The year that ended with a dive I swam into the snow, I walked into the desert, And I died."

Toby's new side project Piggy Black Cross has released two new songs that kinda sound like a nice continuation of this sound. Who knows what the next Kayo Dot album will sound like.

Sound's daring. I wish he would explore ambient more. (I post this cause I know he browses sputnik!)

You should check out his recent solo stuff if you haven't yet. The first few minutes of Anamnesis Park is ambient and it's gorgeous.
