FW hasn't released more "classic" albums than DT, but at the same time hasn't released any duds like DT. FW is definitely the most consistent from the big 3 and possibly all of prog metal

(Except Fates Warning definitely has more classic albums than DT, like 5 vs. 2/3)

DT is going to come up anyways. These guys' histories are tied together. James LaBrie recorded background vocals on a Fates Warning track on Parallels before he ever recorded Images and Words. Kevin Moore has played on a few Fates Warning albums after leaving DT (as well as the OSI side project with Fates' guitar player), and Mike Portnoy has filled in as live drummer on a few occasions... and there has obviously been tours together.

The injustice is that FW hasn't received even 10% of the recognition that DT has.

Definitely agreed there. Fates Warning clearly deserve so much more.

After a couple more listens I made peace with the last track (though it still feels a bit off or kinda unfinished) so here's my ranking of the post-Parallels Fates Warning discography:

Disconnected > Theories of Flight > A Pleasant Shade of Gray > Darkness in a Different Light > FWX > Inside Out.

And even Inside Out is a strong 3.5.

I feel this album needed another 5ish minute track between Ghosts and t/t.

@chaotic: the t/t feels a bit disjointed. It builds up well, especially when the drums kick in, but then ends abruptly, before the first section returns

A Pleasant Shade of Gray should be way more loved in Sputnik.

@Flug - His later era work, where he stays within in his midrange normally appeals to most people. No vocal acrobatics, he stays in a comfortable range that has, imho, a lot of emotion.

The album is still going strong for me--I'm quite in love. For me it's Seven Stars, Light and The Shade, and Like Stars... though Ghosts of Home has grown a lot as

These guys just know how to do it.
