Loving this more and more... Ray makes it so easy to listen to prog...

Yeah I swear this is the first FW album I can listen in full without losing interest. And that includes all their high rated shit from the 80s. Have yet to hear the 90s stuff though, so I will get on it.

haven't u checked Parallels yet?

This album doesn't throw you straight in there like Darkness in a Different Light did, but man once it picks up the pace it really gets good. 'Seven Stars' is good easy listenin' and 'The Light and Shade of Things' is a master piece of a track. This album makes anything by Dream Theatre pale in comparison, and I love those guys as well.
Definitely going to have this on repeat for a few weeks.

Modern FW shits on modern DT. Matheos is as creative as ever
@bloc: Yeah man the production is really good. The guitars and drums sound especially good

"haven't u checked Parallels yet?"
Just finished it, I liked it. I am liking the 90s stuff much more than the 80s stuff it seems.

Inside Out is basically Parallels part II, so you'll either love it or hate it for that reason. 'Face the Fear' and 'Monument' from that album are well worth checking out, though.

Yeah the 90s stuff is better, especially because of Alder, Zonder, and the diverse songwriting

No Exit and Perfect Symmetry are their best albums, though.

My bad, forgot Perfect Symmetry was released in 88. That's the best one imo

Perfect Symmetry, Parallels and A Pleasant Shade of Gray are the only ones I had somehow enjoyed up till now, while Darkness in a Different Light I respected, but wasn't fully on for it. But, this one.... This one....
The Light and Shade of Things' intro gives me Scarred/Lifting Shadows off a Dream vibes.

@Myth: Disconnected, FWX are also really good, but more experimental. FW's music takes a while to digest, that's one of the main reasons they aren't as popular as DT of Queensryche
This album is more direct but still with a good amount of experimentation.

I also really dig the thrash metal-like overtones of No Exit and because they haven't revisited that angle it certainly makes it a unique album even among the already diversive Fates discography.

I'll devote some time to listen to those two. It's good delving into nwew bands once in a while.

I wasn't expecting much from this album, but it's so much more brilliant than the last efforts. Jarzombek does a great job here, yet I'm still missing Zonder.
