I was mainly just going on NB's first album anyway since I'm pretty uninformed about them so doesn't really matter too much. Agreed I've exhausted my thoughts on those comparisons anyway.

I'm definitely more in the mood to listen to this album than I ever was M/M, which is a good sign. I wish it had more standouts like Vheissu with "For Miles" or Beggars with its title track. But this is probably one of their most consistent albums I think.

Butthurt???

Dang Minty, you're sensitive. I didn't mind the comparison, but not to Black Honey. Blood on the Sand is more of your generic alt rock song that could possibly sound like Nickelback. But even that is a stretch...Black Honey however? Naw.

Not sensitive but thank you for your concern, I was just messing around with the "butt hurt" comment. I don't think Black Honey is generic at all. It's got a great groove. Probably one of the most memorable songs on the album I think. I don't think Black Honey sounds like NB in general, just the groove is specifically reminiscent of one particular NB song (and don't tell me Rockstar doesn't have a good groove -- there's a reason it was so popular). There are other songs that, as you said, are more "generic alt rock" than Black Honey,

Oh well I've only heard NB's radio songs, so yea I didn't see the connection.

Back to this album.

I think it's missing one of those heavier moments that they have toward the end of their songs. The Window has it, but I expected it again somewhere along the way. When I heard Salt and Shadow being one of their better songs, I expected that atmospheric sound to turn into something heavy and BIG. Similar to the end of Broken Lungs maybe...I don't know.

i also wish they went back to the death from above chorus one more time at the end of that song. my favorite part of the whole album.

I feel like having more really heavy moments is one of the only main things that could have made this album even better. Where they just completely let loose you know.

JHM, yes!!

That was one of the best choruses on the album, if not the best. I was surprised they didn't go back to it. I read a comment the other day that said, "At least they could've come back to those nice guitars when Dustin screams 'I drop death from the sky' and just jammed out toward the end."

Maybe they kept it safe this time around since it was a comeback album in a way. Hopefully they'll explore a bit more on the next release and let loose a bit. They kept it safe some.

haha glad someone feels the same way. that chorus fucking rips and it is easily the heaviest thing they've done since alchemy. maybe they'll do something with it live like deadbolt. one can dream.

if I had to make a wholly unnecessary comparison like half this thread is doing, I'd say some of this reminds me a little bit of Down on the Upside-era Soundgarden. Dustin's voice especially is getting more Chris Cornell-esque these days, in a good way.

I haven't really listened to this record correctly. It's killing me. I'm a dedicated fan though. Took my work break to go buy this record. Listened to half of it in my car and the rest on headphones at work about 45 minutes later.

Ugh...
