Black Honey???

Maybe Blood on the Sand, but not Black Honey, lol. Terrible comparison IMO.

Somebody's butt hurt that a band they like is compared with a band they don't like. Aawww. I said nothing about which band I think is better. Just saying, Thrice are a straight-up rock band like Nickelback and 3 Doors Down. They are hardly "alternative". Stay With Me is like a cheesy pop-fest. So much of this album sounds like The Fray wrote it.

Like I said, there's right ways to approach literally any type of music. This is miles better than anything those three bands created. At least Thrice aren't misogynist pricks like Nickelback.

Nickelback are not a straight up rock band. They are a straight up pop band.

I think if somebody claims that this album is somehow different in style to your average rock band then I find that funny. In style, that is. Not passing negative judgement on how good this is.

That chorus in Stay With Me could have come from any pop group in the charts, in the UK at least. And before you take that as an insult -- chart music is in the charts for a reason and it's not a bad thing. I do like this album, it's good. Really good even, at times. I also like The Fray, and Nickelback has put out some really decent stuff before.

@jmh886 how are Nickelback not a rock band? Fine, I haven't listened to them in a long while, but I have their debut album and that is a rock album. As are most of the songs I've heard from them since.

I don't think it's drastically different or anything, but they play it well and Dustin's voice is fantastic. The Fray and 3 Doors Down are harmless but I can't stand nickelback. Thrice play this style with more passion than those three could ever dream of having imo

Why are people butthurt over people *liking* certain music? That's some next level cynicism. We're on a site to celebrate music and people whining over music being celebrated? What the fuck?

@snake It's dumb to point out that a rock band is a rock band? Okaaaaay.

They do play this style very well. If I wanted to listen to a straight-up rock album I would totally throw this on over anything else. I pretty much prefer it to most of the albums they've done since Vheissu really because I'd rather a "generic rock" vocal style to a Kurt Cobainy style of singing like was on M/M and some of Beggars. I think Beggars probably has better songs overall for me but this album is performed better.

If the only think I liked from this band was the alchemy index, would I like this?

dude, aint nothing wrong with pop bands or generic rock bands. but there are tons of bands that do that well. and imo you were comparing them to bands that do not. i don't disagree with the genre comparisons. but there are better bands that come to mind. and watch the first video i linked for why nickelback are not a rock band.

I'd say they have the "sound" of Nickelback and 3 Doors Down and a lot of the songwriting tendancies of The Fray (though not so much The Fray's soft, piano-centric sound). Listen to a lot of The Fray and imagine it rocked up then you have something like this I think.

I like the Fray a lot. They write really great songs that aren't performed/sung particularly well. So I like this album.

They are the first 3 bands that come to mind? Yes, but only because I don't know any other rock bands like this because I never choose to listen to this style of music. Generally I only listen to bands with more falsetto vocals, but this is done so well that I'm enjoying it.

OK OK fine I'll concede. I said Nickelback and 3 Doors Down because I just plain don't know many more rock bands like this. I'm sure there are better comparisons.

Would you have been happier if I'd have said Creed? Or Stone Sour? I don't know.

I never said this is the same quality level as Nickelback. I was only commenting on style. I'm sorry you don't like Nickelback, and I wouldn't call myself a fan either. But to say two bands have a similar style doesn't really say anything about quality. Doesn't matter how good or bad the bands I chose to compare this to are, as I was only talking about the "type" of music that it is.

Creed is questionable, but quite frankly yes. mostly just nickelback. because that aint even close. you can maybe make an argument for the other bands.
