"Butthurt reviews from staff memebers who have no credentals or are elitists. Music is so subjective "

Implying you need credentials to review something subjective is a bit contradictory bud.

Credentials and subjective by definition are not contradictory. Music is a subjective field of art that is typically critiqued by people with supposed credits. No need to sound like a know-it-all towards Dead.

No need for the condescending tone and honestly credentials would help with taking the review serious or not since music is indeed subjective.

"Music is a subjective field of art that is typically critiqued by people with supposed credits."
key word: "supposed"

at any rate, no one should value the opinions of critics blindly. critics are useful insofar as they might: provide some historical comparison/insight, are entertaining to watch/read, or happen to just generally vibe with your own opinions and thus present you with music you end up digging more often than not.

I mean you are only attacking Dead because he doesn't support this debauchery of a review. I find there to be absolutely no explanation to give this album a 1.5/5 only to look cool and snobbish.

The problem is everyone does and I find this to be an abuse of power. He even said he was ripping on the band. I just find it to be low and condescending.

Wasn't being condescending - just disagreeing with you.

We're talking about the wrong issues here.

The problem is that this review is poorly written, juvenile and unprofessional, AND YET it has become the flagged review simply because it was written by a staff member.

When people google reviews of this album and click on the Sputnikmusic link, THIS is the review they will see. THIS is the review that will represent the site's views on the album. And that's absolutely ridiculous.

Staff members should be expected to write serious, professional reviews, and they should be penalized if they don't. At the very least, this review could have been written under an alternate account. In any case, it should not be the flagged review.

Yeah, I'm not one of the regulars, and sorry for getting your name wrong, Eli. As hilarious as that may be to you guys...

...Keyblade, I agree with basically everyone on this thread that this is "more rant than review" and shouldn't be flagged, especially if Eli doesn't write anything that should be taken seriously since 2013. I like Deftones, and I like Gore.

But what about those who don't like the Deftones, Kendrick Lamar or one of those anointed groups, who don't have a "sophisticated" palate when it comes to music? Sputnik can be really toxic and unforgiving for the plebs and the small-time users who participate in it.

There's no irony. I'm not being elitist when it comes to subjective taste in music; I'm being elitist and serious when it comes to the culture about Sputnik. There's too much groupthink, drive-by sniping and being dickish for the sake of being dickish here.

Subjective is a word of uncertainty; credentials would put more trusted insight into the review from the writer. The words are not contradictory because this would imply a sort of polarity in the nature of the words. "Subjective" is uncertain, credentials has nothing to do with being certain about something. It is just what a person uses to brag about how they are right and you are wrong mentality. It is not of certain nature because this person is not an all-seeing god; this is why music criticism should die.

I agree with both of you completely and honestly this site is childish at times for the level of immaturity and trolling I see on a daily. It is annoying.

In all seriousness, I would argue there isn't enough contrarianism in reviews on this site.

Why does there need to be contrarianism in reviews on this site? I adore this album and I am rather surprised that it isn't a 4.0 album at least because I like it better than KNY.

Staff reviewers ratings very closely match the average,I did some lists on this. Why wouldn't you want people thinking independently about music?

"Why does there need to be contrarianism" because it helps people questions things and possibly develop their own tastes. often there is more information in criticism than in praise - not that this review is tangible proof of that, but

Contrarianism in reviews is cool because it's interesting to see a review that promotes an opinion different from the norm.

This review, however, is contrarianism done wrong. I echo Ocean's sentiments near the bottom of the previous page.
