If you actually read my comment you'll find I'm commenting on their preference of proficiency over soul in their music, not how their music sounds.

Album pales in comparison to The Flesh Prevails. Idk what people complain about the production for. Sounds fine to me...

yeah I don't get the production complaints either. granted it is better on here but it's not like it was a problem in the first place

I was thinking the same about the need for harsh vocals some times. But then again, if the artist wants it this way, I'll have to go with it.
Listen to Uaral. Cringiest thing that ever happened to me. Won't say anything more.

I like Uaral. Some of the best acoustic stuff I've heard. Sure, the vocals can reach campy status for sure and the bawling/weeping was overdone, but it's a fun listen and I can dig some of the growling.

So, this album is weird. I didn't care much for the singles- not hot on the female vocals at all, but the album has it's moments. I do like the title track (female vocals here, much more fitting) and Amber Gaze is fantastic as well. But, for being a progressive metal band, a lot of this feels a bit generic to me.
They've gotten better at transitioning their heaviness in and out of their atmospheric parts, but the overall product doesn't seem like anything too special and I really feel like they swung hard and missed on Fidelio and Les Silences. I'm going to listen to it a few more times before I give it a rating.

Still not sure what I'd give this, doesn't touch TFP for me though. Excellent review as always.

This review is closer than the other I saw on sput previously. People keep saying there is a dip in songwriting, but they are totally wrong. What this all comes down to is that The Flesh Prevails was immediately captivating (A Starlit Path is a flawless opener) but repeated listens didn't reveal anything new. Which is wonderful in its own right. Dreamless, however, gets better with every listen. Especially songs like Scar Queen and Lacuna.
As far as Hoffman goes - I really don't have a problem with him at all. Its one of the most striking moments of the album in The Void Alone when he unleashes those high shrieks, pretty much the only time he does so, and I'm not sure doing more of it would change anything. We don't look at Ulcerate and yell about how the vocalist only does one thing. Keep in mind, Fallujah's foundations are in death metal. Hoffman's programming skills really are top notch - some very creative stuff going on throughout the album - and I believe he is just as indispensible as Scott Carstairs when it comes to that distinctly Fallujah sound.
I still might review this. I'm not sure a review has really nailed it yet. Its deeper than you think.
