Okay, I have a much clearer picture on the phrase now. I've read the lyrics, but, quite honestly, it just shows the attitude of ''burn the old, build the new'', that is not completely Marxist. Many social and economic models talk about innovation.
The ''we are the revolution'' part is quite generic and while one could assume some communist/anarchist/left-wing tendencies, I wouldn't shake on it. It's not that I disagree with you, I simply don't accept it that much. Only Haken can know if they talk about communism or not.

Lapse and the last two are my favorites, The Architect has a lot of cool moments too. I have no idea how to feel about Earthrise haha

Really liking all of these now. The Architect should have probably cut a minute before and a minute after the guest vocals, otherwise it is a fantastic song that feels about as grand as Falling Back To Earth. I think the album needed another Endless Know type song somewhere.

I wish there was more Blackwater Park sections like in the Architect 10 minutes in, I miss that style of Opeth haha

The last chorus in The Architect is one of the greatest melodies this band has ever crafted. That part til the end might just be the coolest part of the album. At first I was skeptical, but i'm glad they went with Initiate for the first single.

The Architect is 5/5. I really dig the more ambient sections and the bass is just gorgeous.

Holy shit, was this amazing. Much better than the mountain, with lots of heaviness, dynamics and fantastic songwriting. Less goofy too. Good thing Haken are learning to play heavy, it's a must for a prog band IMO as it gives you a broader dynamic spectrum to work with

I still think as a whole this new album is better than Mountain.. there are some really great songs on that album, but some aren't as memorable as others, even my most favorite songs on that album have some really annoying sections and for example Cockroach King is a song that I love but at the same time hate - the start of the song I really hate, then there are some sections that are like I said before annyoing, but it still has some fantastic sections aswell
Affinity maybe isn't as heavy as Mountain, has more "cheesy" sections, has a more laid back approach, but every song here stands on their own, even the slow sections are enjoyable, songs are more experimental, there are still many heavy moments that make this album still a prog metal album (after some of my favorite prog bands moved last year more from metal to rock like Riverside and Klone, I'm glad that Haken are still a prog metal band)

Yeah, Affinity has definitely more goofy moments than any previous album from Haken, but maybe this is one of the many reasons I like this album so far the most from them.. I like serious music, but it's nice when a prog metal band for once has just fun writting music, not taking themself way too seriously and try really crazy stuff + a band that makes me like a dubstep section in a prog song, just can't be bad
Maybe I'm just in a mood when this type of prog metal style music is right up my valley, because this week I'm listening to their whole album catalog, and still even now I think that Affinity is a better album than Mountain.. maybe if I'm more in a mood for a more serious, traditional prog music, I pick up Mountain but right now I'm having more fun with Affinity

both albums have their cheese but I feel like The Mountain is the more genuine record.

I mean, there's nothing that isn't genuine here, so that feels like a stretch. I'd say The Mountain is more emotional with personal moments, but that doesn't make the band's intention any different

also, the ending of Lapse is wonderful, I wish there were more vocal moments like that throughout the album
