"is the new album that politically charged? Im confused"
no. the first song definitely is but all the others are pretty personal

New albums really damn good. Better production makes it just a little bit better than their debut. I can totally see why the new album would be a turn off for people, but I enjoy the honesty in the lyrics and how direct they are. Music is pretty top as well.

outside a few songs, it seems more relevant to their brand than output. I'd prefer, for the most part, if artists let their experiences (and their expression of such) drive / speak for their politics (though, of course, a lot of great art does otherwise), but again: I don't think Camp Cope's music projects the same deliberation that their actions / discourse outside of it does.
yea, TMF was talking above about how CC's politics arent the subject matter of most of their songs. however i do think that there's some projection of their politics nonetheless; i feel like it drives the songs on the second album emotionally, even though many of the songs might not specifically be about social issues. like the members have talked in interviews about how preoccupied they've been with the discourse surrounding them since forming the band; im sure those emotions seep into the music. i have to say, however, that i am also definitely projecting my own perceptions (about them in the context of their stuff outside of the music) when i listen to their music.
there's nothing here as memorable as 'West Side Story' or 'Trepidation', or even 'Jet Fuel', which does have a strong political backing.
the charm is perhaps gone (for me). It feels unfocused, distracted even. I don't know.
im still tryna finish forming my opinion on the new record but this is definitely something i picked up as well. i cant quite put my finger on why, but the new one is definitely not as immediately memorable as the debut; maybe the grooves arent as distinct and/or driving (i think its got something to do with the "feel" of these sons)? the specific "charm" of the first one is also something thats noticeably diminished this time around. still, the new one is a grower imo and has its own kinda "charm" in that its not really a punch to the face like the last album; much more of a slow burn, though still damn powerful. overall i think its a worthy follow up, which these days is something i am v happy to be able to say.

Hoping to feel the same after a few more listens, else I'll just have to admit this isn't for me.

I have an idea, take this to the political threads in the forums.

just saw them live, it was terrible! georgia started off the set by saying “men are real pieces of shite, don’t you agree ladies?” then the band provided pitchforks to all the non-men in attendance while chanting “death to all men”. they rounded most of us up, bound and gagged us and threw us in the back of a semi. i barely escaped with my life! there’s that feminist double standard again right boys!
jk they were fucking gr8

Forgot how good this album was. Georgia's vocal performances are amazing. Wish it was better produced.
