Too bad it's a step down. Impulse is a fantastic album

This sounds like Hawthorne Heights at times... Melodeath shows that you can achieve melody without being emo... gosh this is horrible!

don't get what all the hate is about. doesn't sound terrible on first listen. I haven't much cared for anything by them since Andromeda.

I need to give it a few more listens, but some songs stand out, most don't. I don't see anything that separates themselves from other similar bands, so I can't help but 3 it.

On the other hand I'm listening to Textures, slightly different, but there's a bit more going on...

ramon.

Gave a couple more spins.

Eh. "It worked last time" mindset.

I really hope these guys don't become another “They were good when so and so were still around" type band. They've got too much potential. The melody is still there. Riffs are still there. Fuck even JT does his thing, but something just ain't clicking.

I get the feeling JT and the other new members might not have wanted to rock the boat too much right off the bat.

Definitely interested to see where they go from here stylistically.

And in the grand scheme of generally not being as heavy, other bands have done this, and it's turned out great, even if the changes weren't so well-received in the short run (As Cities Burn, Thrice, The Contortionist).

Obviously those other bands aren't quite in the same genre, but we'll see.

First half is good, though after the title track I lose interest. Skyline is my favorite track and reminds me of their older songs.

Agreed that something is missing from the mix.

@Volt: Huh, that's interesting. I definitely enjoy the last three songs the most, haha

Yeah, honestly the album's kind of growing on me.

It makes me feel less xtuffx, but so be it.

I need more listens and time to let the album sink in before I rate.

I think once you make peace with the fact that it's not augment or impulse no matter how much you might want it to be, it gets a lot more enjoyable
