yeah the last minute or so of Error is one of the bands best moments what’re you smoking dude

and I’ve cooled down on Ohms as a whole. When it came out I was definitely in the camp that thought it was the best thing they ever did, but I think I was just so happy to hear from one of my favorite bands in the middle of a really shitty year. When Genesis dropped I literally cried I was so happy.

Now I think it’s probably behind Koi, White Pony, SNW, and maaaybe Diamond Eyes. Still a really damn good record tho

And yeah art I really agree about the chino thing, Steph is cool and he has wrote some banging riffs but he’s definitely the least unique member between him, Chino, and Abe. Hell, there are some points where I feel like Frank is more creative than him.

I didn't cry, but when Genesis dropped after that teaser, I did get emotional lol. Such a fucking banger and the T/T was so good too. It did make that garbage year better. Spell Of Math also helped

The thing with Ohms, is when I first heard it, I was on that side of thinking it we a deep, creative record. But after a recent full listen, I overreacted and realized it is just what you said... By the numbers Deftones. It is definitely not a bad record at all, but for me, it is very forgettable.

Error sounds like the band is just going through the motions. "One of the bands best moments." That's a tad hyperbolic, but to each their own.

That is why Doomed User hit me so hard, because the way the track listing is set up, it comes out of left field after the first two tracks. It could have easily been the opening track. Plus, the rewind effect at the end of Acid Hologram, I always took it as the album rewinding to the beginning. It almost seems intentional.

The end of Ceremony, Radiant City, Headless, and Ohms, are the only tracks I seem to revisit.

This was in response to "artiswar" BTW. Phone isn't cooperating this morning.

I agree with all that but I think Error is a highlight as well. I really like that song. I find myself not coming back to Ohms album that much, but I'm weird, I love Gore.

Gore is an anomaly to me, sometimes. When I first heard it, I found it as just... Ok. Took a long break from it, then on day really sat down, with headphones and listened from start to finish. It's like that one song you always skip, just to realize years later, that it was a banger all this time.

There are a lot of little effects, and layers going on in the background that made my listen, almost like hearing it for the first time. Production aside, I have come to enjoy it for what it is, and it is now, arguably, my favorite Deftones record.

With Deftones, my favorite songs always seem to drastically change over time :p.

I'm glad to hear people are starting to come around to this over OHMS. I didn't hate that record by any means but I certainly don't return to it the way I do some of their other records.

I think Ohms beats this handily. Pompeji is really the only track there I don’t care for. Here though, Pittura Infamante is legit one of the worst songs the band has ever made, Xenon is a bore, and despite what others think, Doomed User is one of the weakest “heavy” tracks the band has ever done. It’s decent, but doesn’t come close to songs like When Girls Telephone Boys, Rocket Skates, or Rats. Hell, the heavy track on Ohms (This Link is Dead) is much better than Doomed User.

But I really love the more ambient moments on this record, specifically the intros to Hearts / Wires and LMIRL. They’re gorgeous. And the outro to Phantom Bride, with all of the wailing guitars is fucking incredible.

I think Pompeji is straight up the worst track they've ever made lol.

Yeah, all those moments on here are incredible Wildcard. Rubicon also really gets me going. That WOOOOOOOO towards the end and when the breakdown comes back. Oof. Pure chills

Rocket Skates has to be one of the most juvenile, silly written lyrics the band has ever done. I loved it when it was released, but it has slowly become bottom of the barrel Deftones for me. Doomed User just has so much more meat to it, musically, and lyrically.

This Link is Dead I like a tad more than Doomed User, so we can agree on that for sure. Xenon is definitely a track that doesn't go anywhere, but it still fits on the album, cohesively. So many gorgeous moments on Gore.

When Girls Telephone Boys is a Top 10 Deftones track.

And yes, Pompeji is pretty bad. I love the story behind it, where Chino talks about just strolling on the beach in an interview I read. I want to like it, but it doesn't click with me at all. That's what I love about this band. Fans have such wildly different takes with their catalogue lol.

I love Gore but Xenon could be cut, I didn't need that song to exist lol. Girls is def top 10 yeah. I like the verses in Pompeji but the chorus/pre-chorus sucks massively

Xenon is fine. I think the weakest song here is Geometric Headdress, and it doesn't help it is placed right after the banger that is Doomed User. I also wish Hearts/Wires was placed somewhere towards the end of the album. The pacing of this album is an issue for me, plus most of the songs sound kinda samey and lack hooks like the previous albums had.

I'm just glad they are returning to Nick to produce their new album.

Ohms ultimately ended up being my least fav Deftones unfortunately, but it’s still great. Deftones and Chevelle are two of the most consistent bands of the genre.
