--Willie have you even heard the song Cry of the Black Birds? That's like the greatest lifting song ever, or one of them.--

I do like that song. That's the one that caused me to check these guys out. There was a video for that song that I found on youtube.

I completely forgot this was coming out, what a pleasant surprise to come in to work to.

Sutur was good don't get me wrong... But I prefer the more melodic side of Amon Amarth like With Oden On Our Side and Twilight. More story driven...

Man I really loved this band till they started making the same album over and over. Might check this out though.

Good stuff - got scared for a minute, hearing a couple of the tracks... Then it got much better.

Overall very solid AA album, with few weaknesses - "A dream that cannot be" really blows; they should have gone with a growling female vocalist rather than Doro...

Aside from that, more of the same viking epicness for fans of the genre.

So basically you liked their first album?

I think there has been a decline in quality since Twilight, Versus the World/WOOOS/Twilight sound way more inspired than the rest of their albums to me. I don't at all agree that they have maintained their quality through their whole discography like everyone says.

IMO, Deceiver came off as a bitter disappointment because it really felt like Twillight of the Thunder God II with really no attempt to step out of what had already been done. Surtr Rising I enjoyed thoroughly, because 3/4 of the tracks there were memorable stuff with a hint of novelty and blackness that just wasn't there in the 2008 release.

Deceiver was just... bland. This album however, brings something refreshing albeit not exactly new. It's all about creating the illusion of progress.

I don't think I'm ever going to listen to this again. Good album, but I can just listen to Twilight... A Dream that Cannot Be is hands down the worst AA song.

I have no idea what they were even thinking with that song. It might have been THE most generic instrumentals they have ever done, coupled with terrible lyrics and a horrid ft.

when those female vocals dropped i couldn't believe it. it's like they didn't even mix it, they just took her first take and said 'yeah that's good enough'
