This has grown on me a lot - think it's second only to Blackstar for me so far this year

Probably my favorite of the year so far, though I expect the new Sturgill Simpson and PJ Harvey albums to challenge it.
Gave the Delines album a few listens last week Doof and wasn't totally taken by it, I need to listen to it more though.

Boney because I'd listened to so many RF albums before The Delines I just enjoyed it being so different thanks to the female vocals.
It's a more relaxed listen but it grew on me a lot.
You should definitely check Post to Wire, Thirteen Cities and We Used to Think... - you've got a quality discography to dig into here, I wouldn't be surprised if you actually prefer another of their albums to this one

Yeah I threw a 3 on the Delines which may be a bit unfair, I got swept up in some other albums and kind of forgot about it.
I definitely plan on going through the RF discog, I just haven't gotten around to their other albums yet.

'Post to Wire' is considered their classic so would be interested how you rate that. I actually don't like it as much as their later stuff but it's still great

I must say I'm intrigued by the post rock tag the band has here - is that a sound they explore on their albums? I can sort of see it in the two instrumental tracks from this album, I guess.

There's no 'post rock' in RF's sound as far as I'm concerned. They have the occasional heavier guitar moment though

Makes sense - I had a feeling it was just a misguided genre vote on someone's part

Listening to this again for the first time in a couple weeks - still amazing. Three Brothers Roll Into Town is a stunner.

There are a group of tunes that stand apart as near-classics here:
- Whitey and Me
- I Can't Black it Out
- Three Brothers Roll
- A Night in the City
'Two Friends' is good but very similar to 'The Boyfriends' off 'We Used to Think...'

I'd add I Got Off the Bus and Two Friends to that list, though if Two Friends sounds particularly like another of their songs then I could see leaving it off.

'The Boyfriends' is a near-classic itself, that's the issue, and the melody and song structure is so similar
'Two Friends' is different enough to be worthwhile, still a good 'un

Great stuff here, still one of my favorites of the year. I Got Off the Bus is a classic tune.

This has dropped out of my top 10 but I'm blaming 2016 for being too darn special
It won't drop out of my Top 20, no way, surely not
Still unsure as to whether it's their very best album

Still enjoying this--that cover is the worst tho, lol.
"I Can't Black It Out If I Wake Up And Remember" is such a great country song title.

Love this so much, "I Got Off the Bus" is probably a top 5 soty for me.
In fact re-evaluating this might be a 4.5 overall.
