Pretty good read although I feel like one cannot do a Swans album justice - especially one of the more significant ones, which is what I consider Children Of God to be - without really waxing poetic about the nature of atmosphere on some of those cuts. There is a bit of it here but personally I feel that this music is so grand, you HAVE to be a bit pretentious to properly convey the feeling to a reader.

Other than this personal nitpick, good review. This is a mammoth of an album, one of my chosen few Swans records that I consider to be absolute peaks of career. Your intro about religion actually makes a lot of sense because it is exactly the feeling of religios awe that this record provokes. You immideately think about huge cavernous cathedrals, dimly liy only be a few fading candles, and you hear some insane cult chanting in unison and banging their human-skin drums in praise of some world-devouring deity.
