Cloves pretty sure there's a AC album out there that's at least a 4/5 for you, just not sure which one...

Did one of the band's kids came up with that flori-dada dada hook?

First two times I listened I hated it, then watched the video and I started warming to it a bit more. As it stands I think it's pretty average for AC but tragically it's still one of the better songs here. The Avey vocals in the verses are decent enough

'She stopped crying like a child...Jack the Ripper!'
Two songs in and both are leagues ahead of anything off the latest. What a band they were in 2007

the lyrics don't make any sense until you take acid
then they make way too much sense

If you drop acid listening to it do you also believe you're flying on Falkor whilst suckling his nipples that smell of musty books and taste like bacon?

i just remember it coming on just as the opening beat did on peacebone and straight away it transformed me mentally back into a little child ape man thing, dancing around atop the sink eating bananas and all jugular vein in a juggler's girl, all bubbles exploding to tickle the bath, only the taste of your cooking can make me bow on the ground etc. etc. god every word was like revelation, you could just feel avey's acid-octane octave bloody screaming desperate voice ("iiiIIiinsideeeeeee") and know exactly the kinds of feelings and images he is alluding to
strawberry jam and feels are actually really manic, jittery, disturbed albums

I was obsessed with Strawberry Jam when it came out, I liked Feels a lot but the lyrics and atmosphere on the Jam was next level.
When I returned to Feels after listening to SJ I did get into it a bit more though

@CLOVER
"i mean, farting into a microphone is a creative output but that doesn't mean its good.
im not comparing this to farting in a microphone by any means, i just mean that "trying something new" or "artistic" doesn't equal good."
I agree with you. However, I don't feel like it should be completely discounted, either. Especially with a band like Animal Collective who has shown a distinct seperation from any sort of formula throughout their career. Maybe good isn't the lable. Perhaps "progressive?"
I understand that, like Painting With, not a lot of people "got" Hollinndagain. I'll even admit that it's not the most listenable thing they've put out. However, I respect it similar to how I respect this. I still see this as growth. I can hear, in every record, a sound that distinctly belongs to it (The echoed back and forth vocals are the standout here). I know that, even a new AnCo listener could place nearly every song on it's correct record and theres a lot to be said for that.
So you view this album as a misstep for them? That's fine. I don't have any right to tell you otherwise. However, you cannot discount the groups artistic ability when it comes to writing something so seamlessly cohesive and different.
To be Animal Collective is to be creatively amorphus and I personally feel that Painting With is another example of them executing that.

in other words Hopeful- animal collective is as animal collective does
but yeah doof they're both the most insane albums to trip to. Feels for example, the first 4 songs are just beautiful love-drenched, euphoric psychedelia you just dance and fucking bubble around like soup broil to the brim, screaming with pleasure involuntarily and being all dizzy and then Bees comes on and completely fucks with the cadence your body has been overclocking to, yeah and you become honey dripping all over window blinds trying to adjust-- and every strike of that rattling eastern sitar thing is like a knife taking little jabs at you, and you know something ominous is coming with those whale whirls and then... well Banshee Beat comes on with that tremolo thing playing with your intestines and you know anco has just opened a new can of worms and you spiral on downward trying to cope with the dread and sadness from that whirling in daffy duck to loch raven's disturbed craving for warmth and love in a blanketed bed
And then Turn Into Something jams a fucking hot ladle up your arse and you find the emotional closure that was absent before. It's almost life changing the kind of connection you foster for Feels after you let yourself at the mercy of it's content
get to heaven is another good one
