Nick Cave actually looks like a cave.

This has grown like a trooper, I'm going to go all in and say it's fucking amazing.
Hopefully an album is on the cards that will expand on the stuff here and throw in a bit of the old massive attack dub groove.

Will it have the old massive attack dub groove?

I imagine there is a distinct possibility that some of it may. If this EP is any indicator (which I'm sure it is as their EPs have never really strayed far from the elements of the LPs released around the same time) then the new album is really a throwback to a lot of the elements of their earlier discography. I hear elements of all of their discography here but compared to Heligoland you can definitely tell they are paying homage to their early days up to 100th window. The inclusion of Tricky asserting the obvious further.

Honestly above everything else the percussion on this EP really stands out

Exactly pots dude, I live in hope. Don't dig window or heligoland whatsoever they're just skewed waffle to these ears.

window is definitely their worst but i still like it. its just so glassy it feels like its always about to shatter.
heligoland i do love tho.

the guitar-work in Voodoo In My Blood sounds like something off HtTT era Radiohead

I'd invested too much hope on helio being a return to form. Definitely the better of the two but no stunning moments like Massive Attack could do at the drop of a hat. This e.p shows massive potential though I must say..

"I'd invested too much hope on helio being a return to form."
Well I mean the EP that preceded the album was a pretty good hint that the album was going to be going in a new direction rather than 'returning to form'
"no stunning moments like Massive Attack could do at the drop of a hat."
I dunno dude Paradise Circus is one of MA's most beautiful songs ever written and both Flat of the Blade and Prey for Rain are both mind-blowing imo

Paradise might legit be my 2nd favourite MA song actually

Yeah pray for rain was a standout from what I can recall, there was no edge to it though. Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine are different league then all the in band turmoil surfaced, whatisface left and it's been downhill since but this thing is absolute class.

Define 'edge'. Its not like Blue Lines was particularly edgy by any means so I'm not quite sure why thats the standard. Mezzanine is really the only truly 'edgy' album they've released so far imo.
"whatisface left and it's been downhill since but this thing is absolute class."
not really tho, it was more down and then up a bit and then up a bit more from there considering everything since 100th window has been better than it. also u mean mushroom?

Cutting through the rest of the pretenders with a swathe of original, soulful boundary expanding material. They really made their sound their own.
Window tried to be something it ultimately isn't, Blue Lines and Mezzanine are one offs, they can't be imitated.

paradise circus is definitely one of the best massive attack songs imo, only the best songs of mezz are better

Spinning Mezzanine now, thing is absolutely timeless.
I reckon now if 3 blokes backed up by a bowel shaking speaker stack system rolled into Risingson on some late night talk show people would wet themselves with excitement.
