"What was the controversy of this album? "

You know how emotional metal bands get. Just googled it and this was one of the first things I found. There's more to it.

2016 was the moment where the mighty Obscura first faltered. On the first few spins you'd be forgiven to be shock and awed into thinking this album was a masterpiece. The novelty of the fretless guitar and a few good interludes might even strengthen that feeling. Reality sets in on subsequent listens however. A frustrating mess of style of substance remains. Gone are the iconic drum breaks, compositions that unfold their beauty over time, memorable guitar lines. In their stead we get rambling compositions that harken back to Cosmogenesis, shred guitar lines that mainly harken back to the early 90's style of "more notes = better", pseudo philosophical lyrics. Main offenders on this album are the over long 'Weltseele', a collection of cool ideas that unfortunately never go anywhere. Saving grace of this album are Sermon of the seven suns and the title track, which stand a chance elf becoming live favourites. On a whole I bet that this album will always be the black sheep in the discography and in 3-4 years the band won't play anything off this album in a live set anymore.
