Like how the fuck does he keep doing it
This project is basically two decades old and he hasn't released a definitively bad album. Not many artists can boast about that kind of consistency.

Book of Shallows is just so fucking good, probably my favorite off the record

If you look at Avantasia chorus lyrics on paper it's like "there's no way this can make a good chorus"
And then he just does it anyways

New album definitely has more of a rock opera vibe to it. Not sure if I'd put it above Ghostlights yet or not.

Okay yeah can confirm "Book of Shallows" is ridiculously top-tier.
More of am ambiance/atmosphere here, increase in the keys presence, feels more dramatic. Can't say I can complain about any of that though.

I thiiiiiiiiiink Ghostlights still edges it out, but I think Ghostlights is their best album. Need to let this one simmer a bit in the ol' noggin.

First impressions, yeah, I'd still put Ghostlights above Moonglow. I just feel like it was a bigger step forward for the project, more variety and by the end, it felt like a complete journey with perfect pacing. But this is with several listens to Ghostlights under my belt and only two for Moonglow, so we'll see how it holds up with more exposure.

I liked it more on my third go-round than I did initially, for what it's worth. Wouldn't call it progression or regression, but it does feel like its own beast in its own way.

Honestly, the second half of Moonglow drags and brings the whole thing down.
Edit: Yeah. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is where the album begins to lose its touch for me.

I actually like the second half, but Ghostlights is the superior album. That being said, some cuts off of Moonglow are some of the best I think the project has produced. This will probably be repeated ad nausea, but holy fuck man "Book of Shallows" is a 1000/10.

lol that's what I think about this album tbh whereas Moonglow kept me interested throughout for the most part.

I'll try to finish my thoughts on this soon-ish. Fun to write about it! There are drawbacks but I'm coming away satisfied overall.

I prefer Moonglow to Ghostlights to be honest, but I do agree that the first half is stronger.

@Toon: I begin to crave something different by the time track 8 rolls around, but the only weak link in the second half of Ghostlights is "Isle of Evermore," which I consider a nice, perfect breather between "Master..." and "Babylon...," two of my favorite tracks.
