If you have to glorify bands like Storm in order to make Ulver seem bad, you may as well give up.

"If you have to glorify bands like Storm in order to make Ulver seem bad, you may as well give up. "
I feel like you've not been following my points here. We're having a discussion about influence and important within the metal scene of the 90s here. I was stating that Bergtatt was a successor of the style already set forth and pioneered by many many other bands at the time. I was not commenting on quality of them.
That said, Storm rules

Ulver's metal stuff may have been alright, I guess, but it didn't really add anything of value to the black metal scene at the time.
So? Hellhammer, Sodom, Von, etc. were ignored and treated as a joke back in the early days and look at them now. (Testimony from a grumpy old fuck who teached me how to metal).
Well actually Von is still a joke for many.

"So? Hellhammer, Sodom, Von, etc. were ignored and treated as a joke back in the early days and look at them now"
They were treated as a joke by popular rock media outlets, but they were hugely influential in the underground scenes that dominated the genre at the time. Even Slayer were mocked as a joke at the time by mainstream rock media outlets.
But we're not talking about mainstream rock media outlets, we've been talking about the underground this entire time. False equivalence.
|
| |
And I mean it's not even hard to see how influential and big those bands were amongst underground metal fans at the time. There are hundreds of zines and thousands of older fans still alive who have discussed this for decades now.

Also whoever "taught you how to metal" sounds like a fucking poser and explains why your taste is so bad

Not really, They were laughed at by the underground fans. Years later they started to get recognition and influence other bands. Btw Popular rock media didn't even know those bands existed lmao.
Even Slayer were mocked as a joke at the time by mainstream rock media outlets.
Slayer was loved by anyone who listened to them. Which you can clearly see in the quotes from older reviews in the wikipedia. Also in the documental get thrashed.

He'll also laugh at you for saying Bergtatt didn't "bring anything of value" to the bm scene. And he doesn't even like the album

Alright well all of these things are blatant lies. Like, it's so easy to just google all of this and find quick information on how you're wrong. Except Von maybe, I don't know anyone who liked Von except Varg or whatever

Of course I'm sure there were fans. Dumb fans, but still, they were generally treated as a joke.

Here's a library of zines from decades ago with a bunch of stuff to sort through: https://sendbackmystamps.org/fanzine-pdf-downloads/

Here's another directory of them for your viewing pleasure (excuse the ANUS link): http://www.deathmetal.org/zines/

dude astral he quoted wikipedia don't even bother arguing with him he obviously knows more than you
|

oh right all my first hand sources from hundreds of bands, musicians, and various zines is straight WHACK compared to one old guy he knew and wikipedia tru i'm out of my element
i'll leave all my books on their shelves too and my collection of SLAYER mags out of this because they're unworthy.
i probably won't go and ask all the musicians i have on my facebook account to help clarify this info either because they have better things to be doing with their time rather than getting proven wrong by an 18 year old kid on sputnik

Haha, that Brain Damage #1 zine regarded Overkill as Power Metal and thought Ride The Lightning was dissappointing. I doubt they represented the general opinion of the masses.

It's like you're so wilfully ignorant of the 80s that you're only just now realising how different it was
|

what masses!? it was an UNDERGROUND scene!

I told you to see a documentary too. Then again I doubt you'll do it
