I tried finding info about it, but I don't really understand what the "Pike" series IS. What is the basis behind his idea of releasing hundreds of albums under this series? Does it mean anything?

I'm more curious to know if there is someone on here that has listened to every LP.

Yeah, Buckethead is a corporation.

I'm assuming he has material recorded over the years or maybe he just records every practice session.

@fadedsun - The only pattern is that each Pike has approximately 30 minutes. Otherwise, anything goes. I like the artworks though.

Are some of the albums not just godawful because of that though?

@FadedSun I read that the Pike series is supposed to be like a comic book series, with a "new issue every week" kinda vibe to it, which kinda explains why Buckethead is so prolific

Inevitably some albums are, unfortunately. But when he's on to something, it's always worth the listen.

A lot of his LPs are quality. I can't devote the time to listening to all the shit he's put out over the past few years though. I'm sure there are some gems in there, but damn.
There's a lot of new music I still need to check out and Buckethead is low on the list because of the sheer amount of volume.
I'll still try and check out the recommended Pikes though.

Good review. I've listened to every pike and while there are many that are a little too 'experimental', there are a lot that are awesome. For people looking for good ones, off the top of my head here's a few -

40-42, 49-51, 65, 66, 104, 118-120, 160...eh there's a ton.

If you could only listen to a few, listen to 43, 65, 51, and 23. 212 - 218 are good too.

They are all on youtube, and every few weeks they are all on sale for $2 on his site.

Does this guy even shred anymore? I'm really only interested in that stuff from him.

Yes, a ton. Listen to "Crumple" or "Sunken Parlor". Both came out this month and are sick.

from what i've heard 95% of the pikes series sound either like cheesy youtube backing tracks for bedroom guitarists to shred to or pointless avant-garde noodling
