Thanks for the comments, folks. The fact that this was never meant to be released doesn't mean it isn't trash. It's trash. Terrible, bad trash, regardless of whether it was meant to be released or not.

Regardless, feedback is feedback. Thanks for the feedback. :D

I mean there's no doubt this sucks, but I wouldn't say these recordings say anything about Kurt and his songwriting or musical ability. It's pretty obvious listening to them that he's 100% fucking around in them and that none of these recordings were ever even considered for a commercial product.

True, which is why fucking rude and distasteful to release it, given that Kurt almost definitely didn't want anyone but him to hear any of that.

No one's saying it isn't trash. You've just heard some meaningless scraps, some of it not even music, that's been put out by money-grubbing hacks, and convinced yourself it's Cobain at his 'most primal'. Every artist, musician or whatever dicks around and makes some nonsense at home in between or before or in the midst of doing real work. Judging the nonsense as actual work is a fool's game.

If I was judged based on the shit I recorded while just messing around I'd never be able to show my face in public again. Really sad when people ruin legacies by trying to suck the money out of every recording they ever made.

Maybe his review is a bit misguided in its inference, but then, this compilation is a misguided Frankenstein's monster of random recordings. If they were going to release any of it, it should've been uploaded to youtube or something, not marketed as an insight into Cobain behind the scenes.

This isn't trash because it was never intended to be rated by the usual musical yardstick. It's like recording Tom Hanks gargling mouthwash then reading a script in his pyjamas at home and proclaiming he now can't win an Oscar

love how people acknowledge its a cash grab and was never meant to be released and still rated it anyways

Uhh, have you heard MTV Unplugged? Kurt sounds like he knows he was going to die on that recording. I've yet to hear another artist who has pulled that off.

People have made him hyperbolic, but the man and his work are not overrated.

I honestly believe MTV Unplugged in New York to be the best Nirvana recording.
