@Mutantsnowstorm maybe you're in the same phase/state of mind that I was in when I first heard Ever After and Masterpiece Theatre, or maybe I just haven't connected with the album quite yet! Like I said I do like a lot of the tracks and have had them on repeat for the last few days.

Nicely summed up OmriSama & I don't disagree with much of what you state. You've got the makings of a decent review in everything to wrote. Personally, I have 'Ever After' just ahead of their other 2 LPs in terms of my favourite, with this coming in 4th.
But will they be good memories Snowstorm. You might start getting shitty again every time you hear this album.

ha chances are they probably won't be good, but I'll end up nostalgic for it regardless, it's happened to me in the past

I disagree about the title track being weak, I like it a lot. Although I agree that this is far from the most original album out there, I enjoyed it for what it is and sort of looked at it as an homage.

Alex, I can't stress enough how ok I am with homage, heavy influence & being derivative. More than most around here, actually. But what they do in that title track (& a few others) goes beyond that.
I also love epic tempo-switching songs (ie: listing the closer as this LPs highlight), but I find the key changes on the title track forced & unnatural.

Yeah personally they should've put key changes in other songs that needed it, like I feel I would "love" Who Do You Love even more if they brought the key up a whole step on that final chorus.

Perfect example snowstorm. I also feel that the title track doesn't build effectively. It's not as if there is tension & release, that's for certain.
So... has anyone seen the credits to any songs as yet? I'd be especially interested to see if 'Footlose' was credited, because it better have been.

Yeah you're probably right... I think what you said about it playing better to those under 25 is accurate, it took me a while to pick up on some of the more blatant elements "borrowed" on here.

lol I was just thinking how the shift in 5:25 on the title track sounds really forced

Meh, not peeved. Well, mildly. If I was more than that, I would have rated the album much lower.

I like their old sound alot better.

Me too... Although, there is potential here in this more outright pop sound. It just has to be channelled better.

Gotta check this whole thing.

One of the best albums of the year, easily. And the transition tracks are handled a lot better here than, say, half the skits from The Documentary 2 albums in my books.

Is the 97 in your user-name your birth year? If so, it looks like my "under 25" point in the review's final paragraph is playing out.

I honestly concur with Davey here (although speaking from the perspective of the younger). Half of these influences don't bother me at all because I didn't grow up with them. So I can judge the music simply on my personal experience. Time will tell if this holds up with me, which I think it will.
