Great review Aaron, this seems really interesting although I feel as if I should read the book first or something before listening.

Perfect band, part of me is glad they finished how they did. Great review, too.

so contrived but not boring? that's the least you can ask for really.

If post metal isn't your thing, jam Owsla instead.

'Great review Aaron, this seems really interesting although I feel as if I should read the book first or something before listening.' - thanks Scuro! I actually read the book after I listened to it, which is a pretty arse-about-face way of doing things but it's still a fantastic listen if you like atmospheric post-metal.

The story in the records is only loosely based on Watership Down and takes some of the vocabulary and themes but it really follows it's own thing, so reading the novel/watching the movie isn't really necessary but it's a great story so you should just do it anyway :]

Okay will do. I'll jam it tomorrow and work on tracking down the book at some point.

Nice review! At first I felt uncomfortable with FoE changing style because I love the crust punk feeling of Owsla. However, it was mostly because Elil and Inle are more complex records that require more attention from the listener. It is impossible to not fall in love with the darkest bunny metal of death. Republic of heaven is the best track here without doubt

Republic of Heaven is a cut above. The middle passage about beheading the king is surreal.

This whole album is surreal.

While I (obviously) love the whole album to bits, I agree with Republic of Heaven being one of the best bits of the entire album. Warren of Snares too, and the part in The Burial after the interlude where it slows right down.

The only band that put samples of Dawkins in its lyrics, it's a big plus for me.

It wasn't, no, but this seems to, again, be an excellent Italian read ^.^ If you check my first comment directly under the review you'll find the one I was referring to there.

I think I listen to FoF once a day

I probably do as well in some form. Been checking Owsla out a lot more recently as for walking to/from uni the track lengths are much more manageable. That said, I will ALWAYS make time for Republic of Heaven.
