I agree with Ash. This band has been building towards something like this their whole career. I'm glad all forms of art are finally converging to create a cohesive product.

Man, "The Pavilion" is so good but it doesn't seem to fit the story. Fuck....
|
| |
i think it was mentioned in an interview that "pavilion" was the first song claudio wrote for the album and at the time really had no direction, bare-bones meaning was behind him leaving the band. so he structured that into the backstory of the two protagonists to my understanding, them working in theater productions. so i guess it's a weird interlude in the album or flashback sequence in the context of the story.

That makes sense. I know his real life feelings feed the story but it seemed interesting that he just kinda left it as is.

Pavilion and Old Flames are my two favorite songs so far and the album has absolutely shot up on my radar. Started as like a 2.5 now it's a hard 4. Album is so infectious.

first listen of the new album first two songs were pretty memorable and the rest felt like a 50 minute ballad. hopefully it is a grower but it wasn't bad

Yeah it's like DT's The Astonishing, wayyy too much ballad. We get it, Claudio, you love your wife. Jesus.

I've heard of 5 year old kids extending their arms and saying, "I love you this much!" and fucking Claudio went ahead and made an entire song like that, but took it as far as the distance between here and Mars. Wtf man

Idk, I guess Vaxis 1 just isn't my cup of tea. Still have 4 more albums to go in this arc.

New album doesn't seem like a long ballad to me. This one is way more "ballad-y" imo

"All on Fire, Old Flames, and Night-Time Walkers are my top 3 right now. All really great songs"
This guy gets it.

Love their first 3 albums, dislike the 5 that follow it... Not sure if I'd like the new one.

Surprised there isn't a review of the new one yet. It is so much better than TCBTS. That one was a pop rock record that wasn't even that catchy. The new one brings back some of the heavier tones AND manages to be way catchier. Love it so far.

@Dettlaff give it a shot. It has sprinkles of their old sound in there so you may end up liking it, but it's definitely an evolution from this album and Afterman.

so after listening to it a few more times I can definitely agree that you could shave off about 10-15 minutes to make it much more digestible.
still really enjoy the album though
