Somehow that was my introduction to the band, lol. I'm still convinced I saw a commercial for it in the mid-00s & decided to pick it up based off whatever track it was playing
The existence of this makes me believe I'm not dreaming:

Get Ready is a different kettle of fish. I’d probably 5 that tbh.

I was referring to Sirens in my last post, just used that GR commercial to prove that TV ads for New Order records did exist in the 2000s, lol
But yeah, Get Ready is the SHIT

Yeah Get Ready was an awesome comeback. And Crystal...god damn...

Just give me a review for it, I don't care what the rating is haha

I have a vague recollection of it being absolutely slated when it came out but the critical reception bit on Wikipedia begs to differ.
|

Hmm, I just saw that too. I always thought it was shat on as well.

Good lad, so it’s not just me then :D
Can’t recall exactly what was banded around at the time but it was the ‘should hang up their boots’ type thing.
I absolutely fucking love Get Ready.

Shat on? God damn I feel like I've heard nothing but praise for that one, lol. Even Sirens Call at worst seemed to just have a mixed but mostly positive response
Republic, now there's a record people love to hate!
|
| |
Really? I thought Siren's Call was even more shat on haha although I would rate it about the same as Get Ready. As for Republic, count me as one of those who thinks it sucks.

I thought this was alright on release but nowadays it mainly serves as an argument for what Hooky brought to the band. This sounds more like an Electronic reunion than a New Order record - even Republic at least had those definitive high-note bass hooks. I agree with Log's post on the other page that a big problem with this is the over-production, if Steve's drums had been allowed to breathe & Barney's vocals been left with that natural, occasionally off-key charm it may have felt a bit less, for lack of better word, plastic
Still though, been a while since I've listened & I'm sure it deserves at least a couple revisiting spins from me

Solid - I made a whole discog ranking the other night for New Order out of the blue but I guess someone in the mod house wasn't crazy about it 'cause it still ain't visible, lol

"Academic" used to be the song that auto-played pretty much EVERY time I got in my car back around when this came out
Fortunately that is one of the better tracks here
