Tapedeck and Ragamuffin are amazing. Ragamuffin specifically is one of their best. Honestly I think the problem with this album is that it's overall really safe. It has it's standout parts as a whole (the climax chant in Cradle, the near-ends of both songs mentioned before, the chorus in Nightlight, Brian's vocals in Friendly Fires) but more could have been done with almost all of these tracks. Connection is cool but if it did some more, it could have easily been The Royal We of the album. Circadian Rhythm's last chorus should have been more explosive. The Wild Kind definitely grew on me a lot (Common Reactor vibes is a +) but it could have done something, perhaps more aggressive vocals near the end? Overall, still a very good album and I've been playing it pretty non-stop since it came out. There is nothing bad about it (minus Latchkey Kids being a watered down Mean Spirits), it just could have been more.

Definitely could have been more, and it exercises too much restraint where it really could have built to an epic climax, but it's by no means bad or even average. I thought Neck of the Woods was their best, I'd put this on par with Swoon although I slightly prefer that.

Not sure how this stacks up with me. Carnavas is still #1 and although I always claim to like Swoon more than Neck of The Woods, probably due to Swoon's best tracks being better than Neck's best tracks, I have definitely listened to Neck more in the past few years. This may be their weakest for me but it's still a great addition to their discography

Story of every song's life after track 2.. But that could be just because I love Mew and the first 2 could've easily been Mew songs.

Really? I think tracks 1-4 are the weakest. I love how this improves as it goes on. The stretch from 5-7 is as good of a 3 song streak in their entire discog.

This is ok. Band gets worse with every album

I don't remember this band being so percussive.

Band was actually getting better with ever album IMO until now - which isn't to say this is bad, but rather that Neck of the Woods set the bar impossibly high.

I heard a few songs of this that I thought were poor.

What songs did you hear? If you haven't already, listen to Circadian Rhythm and Tapedeck.

Yeah, not better than Neck of the Woods. But it's really not bad! I'm enjoying it. Maybe it'll grow on me some more.

I would agree with Sowing the band has progressed a lot since Carnavas even though that is my favorite album by them Neck of the Woods is an extremely impressive album. Also I wouldn't say that any half of the album is worse than the other mostly because a lot of these songs are very similar in quality...there isn't too much of a difference between each half

Another disappointing thing was how high my expectations were, especially after Nightlight. Really was hoping this would be their best.

Nightlight was a great single yeah and still proves to be one of the best songs on the album...but it really wasn't a good representation of the rest of the album haha. But I came in with lower expectations after listening to Circadian Rhythm so

Circadian Rhythm raised my expectations actually lol.
This is only mildly disappointing, not sure if disappointing is even the right word - just not the masterpiece I started building it up to be in my head.

yeah i thought circadian was the best song too, the interplay between brian and nikki works really well when they do it (like in it's nice to know you work alone)

Yeah I love that part, about halfway through the song. Sheer brilliance.

I've heard Cicadian. Did not dig.

I like what I've heard from this, not sure what the complaints are about.
