umm... wolves in the throne room? lantlos? several other bands? post rock-influenced bm was not new pre-judah, and judah was just a slightly better manifestation of the swarm of post-bm stuff that emerged after alcest released le secret in 2005. and sunbather especially was preempted by alcest, woods of desolation, lantlos, dopamine, even some amesoeurs stuff, among others, and most of that was just better.

le secret came out in like 2006 or some shit, i don't even think deafheaven were a band then

it's quite well established that deafheaven have never been doing anything 'new' but they hit harder for me than pretty much any other blackgaze band

labeling those with dissenting opinions as basement dwellers. Would expect as much from a deafheaven fan. Negd. Also I don't know what type of crack you're on but the only thing Brought to the Water convinced me of was that this band was more shit than usual.

Haha seems I've struck a chord.

I thought this was just as good as Sunbather. Doesn't anyone love the blackened thrash feel they had going on this? I'm actually kind of glad they didn't repeat themselves.

I enjoyed the read too!

"I think you've made a misstep in not realising that not only are deafheaven criticisers basement dwellers, but also metalheads in general are basement dwellers."

As if "basement dweller" is an insult. Basements are awesome, they are cool in summer and warm in winter. You can throw awesome parties down there, you can cellar booze, you can build pubs etc etc.

The basement-dweller comment is completely dumb.

Definitely getting the black thrash feel Wiz, my only complaint is that I want more of it.

They overuse it IMO. It's like the same riff in different cadences
