why, will he hate it?
imo low's last 3 albums are their best by a mile. their older stuff is still good but the difference in quality is staggering, for me.

‘Hey What’ is an all-timer. I didn’t enjoy Double Negative really and prefer the earlier slowcore-orientated iteration of their sound otherwise
So I could go either way here, it depends

this is in the same vein as dn

this is DN minus the distortion and bit more old-school Low songwriting yh

HW is my favourite Low fs. DN is damn close though, i'd prob score 'em like 5/5 and 4.8/5. i do rly like some of the slowcore stuff, like: words, slide, lazy, anon, over the ocean, do you know how to waltz, shame, caroline. but in terms of actually listening to like ICLIH or TCHTC front to back, i just can't do it without getting bored to hell. not all of their later material sticks either though, i think C'mon and TGD are both pretty w.e, despite having some rly good tracks like witches and broadway, and then there's TIW which is just painfully bland.

this is rly nothing whatsoever like DN

The debut has three or four of the most depressing songs of all time in a row towards the back half and each is incredible - there’s simply no argument it’s the best, because the stuff like ‘Words’ and ‘Lazy’ is also pre good

debut is significantly better than things we lost agreed

‘Things We Lost’ is a great album I rarely feel like taking on in full.
The problem with Low is when a VERY long song doesn’t quite hit and that album has at least two of those for me.
I like every song on the debut.

things we lost is hella overrated for sure and i'd say close to half of it is filler, but the good songs are incredible.
"The debut has three or four of the most depressing songs of all time in a row towards the back half"
which are those? the album seems incredibly front-loaded to me, drops off after track 5

yeah for sure. i have this issue with 'laugh' from Curtain. painful to listen to. lullaby from the debut also comes to mind but it's much better and the latter half is at least pretty good

Down, Drag and Rope live up to their names - I love the whole aesthetic of those three back to back but I wouldn’t expect everyone to feel the same
This album is a little underrated though, this is one of the first of theirs I tried - think I went ‘Things We Lost’, ‘Trust’ then this. I prefer this to ‘Trust’

‘Lullaby’ I’ve never noticed testing my patience have to say, always thought that was a unique one for Low and one of the top six on that album

just relistened to down, drag, and rope and honestly idc how good the lyrics are that has to be one of the most dull suites of songs i've ever heard. idk, for me lyrics alone aren't enough to carry something as stripped back as some of early Low tracks, there has to be something else there. i do love their writing in general though, esp on HW, which i think is noticeably more emotionally charged than any of their other albums.
have any of you guys ever tried playing Curtain on 1.5x normal speed?

Lullaby never ceases to amaze me because of how much they do with so little. So minimal but it somehow sounds so massive. It moves me so much.
