This isn't an album with Blaze on it, but I'd take Blaze's non-Maiden stuff over post-Brave New World Maiden tbh.

It's a truly magical moment and shows that Maiden truly are capable of proving those who think they're "too old" wrong, and delivering some truly energetic stuff.

If the album was just the first disc with "Empire of the Clouds" and "Tears of a Clown" or "Man of Sorrows", I'd call it their best release. Like damn. "Death or Glory" is pretty great but obviously not their best and "Shadows in the Valley" is my least favorite as of now. "The Red and The Black"'s solo is it's best part. Reminds me of how the solos in "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and "For The Greater Good of God" just feel so alive.

"Empire of The Clouds" is definitely amazing and I'm glad it's as long as it is (hell, it doesn't feel 18 minutes and that's a good thing) but it definitely could have spiced things up in the first vocal section and in the beginning of the solo. "The Legacy"-esque section should have made a better definition for itself, even though I still enjoyed it. That groove thing in the latter half is one of the best things they've ever written though

And I agree with the last statement so hard. Bruce brought his A-game. "When The River Runs Deep" is indeed an excellent song, but I wish it wasn't just in the beginning where he decided to push it.

In all honesty I think he pushes it throughout the whole song!
ANd disagreed about Empire needing some spicing up. The subduedness in the beginning is what makes the eventual explosion beginning with the ...---... bit much more effective.

So I love these dudes but final frontier was weak. Does this at least deliver amolad standards?

BEYOND AMOLAD.
The only real AMOLADish song on the album is The Great Unknown.

That's a good point, why did you? Certainly you'd see you'd hate this from a mile away.

Recently got back into Maiden listening to "somewhere in time", reminiscing 'bout my teenage years. This seems like an interesting album to delve deeper in modern Maiden!
Good review, maybe I would have swapped the first two paragraphs though...
