So for a guy digging the album but is intimidated by the band's enormous backlog. Where do I start?

Finally giving this a listen and loving the epic scope it has, one of their best in over twenty years.

If you dig the new stuff, I'd give Brave New World a listen first, then move on to their older material by starting with Powerslave, Piece of Mind or Somewhere in Time. Of course Number of the Beast is a must at any time.

Great Maiden album, I wouldn't put it ahead of any of their LP's during their heyday but this is a solid record.

@Nag - You'd be shocked then how many fanboys around here have been slapping 5's on this heralding it as their greatest album ever.

Haha agreed, I thoroughly enjoy hearing Iron Maiden pump out new music, it's very enjoyable and the music world is much better off with new music from Iron Maiden despite it not coming close to reaching an iconic album status.

My thoughts exactly. Plus, especially A Matter of Life and Death as well as this have been very pleasant surprises indeed.

Even though it's longer, it feels less bloated; it has more hooks.
