The record definitely lacks some immediacy, I think that's why it hasn't blown up QUITE as much as anticipated, but its a damn fine hip-hop record.

The beats are great but I just don't think it's enough for it to be a 4

I'm not trying to sound overly combative here, but what would Dre have had to do to get a better feeling off of this record?

The overly poppy sound that came on the Detox ideas would have made an OK album but this is just so much more satisfying, surely?

There is also the point that having been hyped as fuck for 16 years, anything less than perfection is gonna be seen as disappointing.

only 2 pages on the review of Dr Dre new album? Does nobody really care about this project here anymore? This was a mediocre album, kinda boring, Dre supposed to be an innovator, this was not innovative imo, but i thought his name alone and the time since his last release would have made this album a big discussion point on the site. Weird

this is a really good mainstream rap album I guess. I think the underground crowd was looking for something different

Why the 'underground crowd' would be looking to Dr. Dre for something to suit their tastes is beyond me - this album is definitely more subtle than his last 2, but he's hardly niche...

dr. dre has been one of those artists who can please the underground as well as the mainstream because of he's been a trend setter

hating on this album because it's not innovative is a bit harsh, but I'm not returning to it all that often, besides of a few tracks

'hating on this album because it's not innovative is a bit harsh'

Absolutely - especially in comparison to the overly poppy ego trip it could have been...

I've been listening to this a lot. As a whole, I'd say it is as good or better than most hip-hop albums in recent memory.
